Chance Me - Junior in Highschool

Thanks guys for reading this.
Ok, reality hit my hard last semester. I slacked off and I'm trying to bring myself back together. I have a few colleges in mind and I would like some recommendations. I live in Missouri and would prefer colleges either in state or anything to the east of MO. Colleges in mind are: Washington University in St. Louis (#1 choice), Duke, UMKC, University of Chicago, john hopkins, Yale. I need some recommendations. Income bracket is around 20-35,000. I will apply for financial aid and attempt for scholarships. Also I'm going towards pre-med and go to med school. I'm probably going to major in Biology or Chemistry.

Junior in Highschool
Asian (Parents from India/Pakistan), Male
psat= 160 (my fault for slacking off first semester of junior year)
act= have not taken yet but predicted is about 31-32. i will take it next month, and a few more times.
sat= have not taken (should i take it? im in the midwest so it's not required)

Cumulative (weighted) GPA = 4.359
Sorry I don't know my unweighted. If it helps I've gotten all A's and one B in all of highschool.
Class rank = Top 5% im 20/497
school of about 2,000 students. past students have gone to yale, stanford, wash.u.stl, princeton

I've taken the most rigorous courses as possible.
5 on ap world history.
Current and Senior Ap courses:
Ap Chem Ap Psychology
Ap Government Ap Biology
Ap Statistics Ap English Lang/comp
Ap Calc BC Ap Physics B
Ap French(this course is not available at our school but i will take ap test)
I'm most likely to get 4 or 5 on the aps. Probably a 3 on the ap for french.

EC:
-150+hours of community service at hospital (independent)
-Key Club (community service group at school)
-National Honor Society
-Beta Chi Pi (Science honor society)- i am at level pi.
-A+ program (50hours tutoring)
-Robotics= 2 years, FTC we won our regional and went to state last year and this year we won regional and are going to state again. FRC, we qualified in regionals and went to the world championship and we competed very well.
-Hosa (its new at our school. no competitions but we've had guest speakers from colleges)

That is pretty much it. I think I'm lacking in EC and currently I'm trying to find a summer program/internship like STARS. Would research under a mentor be an excellent EC? Anything else?

Extra: I need financial aid, how can i get it? I will most likely be working throughout college. I am also thinking about a double major.

So, Which colleges do you think I can get into? Recommendations? Suggestions/concerns? Also, should i visit colleges? Does it increase my chance of getting in? I will happily give you anymore information that you might need. Once again thanks for what you guys do. You guys are life savers. Hopefully, I can relieve all this stress and catch up.

Well it looks like you have a pretty solid GPA and that’s always helpful. As for your testing, did you by chance take any SAT IIs cause they are usually pretty important. And also I think you waited a little tooo long to take at least the first attempt of the SAT or ACT. Like when I was a junior I took my ACT in September, SAT first attempt in November, and second attempt in December. And when I went to apply for the medical research programs, I was able to use these scores. But you don’t have much except for you GPA. Also, your ECs aren’t really that extra ordinary. The ones you have seem typical of any high school graduate who wants to go into pre-med. So unless you provide some SAT I scores and SAT II scores, it’ll be really hard to chance you. But you have an excellent GPA on the plus side and if you get decent scores and do an extra curricular that really shows your true personality I think you can get into schools like Washu, JHU, and Northwestern.

Alright thanks. Like I said, I really slacked off and I’m regretting my decision. If I was to get a 33 or 34 on the ACT, is it worth it to apply to Duke? I will attempt for the SAT soon after the ACT. Where I live, counselors don’t even talk about the sat subject tests whatsoever. So i have not taken it due to me not being aware. So basically if i get solid test scores (SAT 2000+ and ACT 33+) I would have a decent chance? my rec letters are probably going to be from science teachers. Should I diversify it instead, like science and math teachers?

Do you go to Parkway South High by chance?

Yes I do. Awesome school

Haha me too!!! Hmm, I wonder who this is. hosa and robotics and the 497 junior class gave it away.

Wow davidxavi, good find!!! Anyway, jihhua, that’s really weird how your counselors don’t talk about the SAT II subject tests. And yea 33+ ACT would look great on your app, but come on 2000+, really? You have to do better than that, at least 2200+. And since you live in the mid-west, I suggest you first take the ACT, then concentrate on the SAT II tests, like Bio, Chem, Math II, or even physics, depending upon which ones your more prepared for. Then apply to some research programs. And usually most research programs will run up to maybe the middle or beginning of August, so you’ll have about 2 months to study for the October SAT. If you do well (ACT 33+; SAT I 2200+; SAT II Subject Tests 750+(avg)) then oh yea you’ll be a reallllllyy competitive candidate.
