CHANCE me (LACs and Rice)

SAT I 2100 (CR 640 MA 800 WR 660 with an essay scored 11)
- typical Chinese scores and I hate writing = =||

SAT II MATH2 800 PHYSICS 800 CHEM 750

TEOFL 113 (30 29 26 28)

GPA not calculated yet, guess it won't look decent cuz my school is indeed a tough one(maybe 80?85?)

EC:

choir group for more than 8 years(singing alto) won the gold medal, silver medal in the 3rd, 5th CHOIR OLYMPICS respectively; hold several concerts nationally

playing the piano (LV 10) Playing the drums -- a majority of Chinese students do

Assistant organizer and host of the mid-summer night party for three years( kind of community service); teaching everyday English in the community, to the olds esp.

Model United Nations (which is no longer sparkle) Outstanding Delegate
...

FC <25k

universities and colleges I have concerned:
Duke (high high high reach maybe)
Rice
Brandeis
Gatech
Carleton
Grinnell
Harvey Mudd(again suicide)
Oberlin
Lafayette
Reed

major tendency engineering probably or other natural sciences
I am going to Graduate School for sure
so I really don't mind LACs if there is no engineering
I found some LACs where science is decent enough

BUT I am afraid if there is any SAFE schools for me in the list above
or whether I should lower down the tier

And do I have to RETAKE the SAT??? T^T

BIG thank you for the incoming answers =)

wait r u an international student? I also took the TOEFL but I don’t know whether I need it because I’m not internation (moved to the US during 8th grade) (man u beat me TOEFL score by 2 points lol lol)

I AM an intl student
haha man you don’t need a TEOFL score cuz your lessons are taught in English for 2 years+
but you can submit it in case
and it is decent enough for any schools

lol ok then.
I really wanna chance u, but Im not familiar with some of the schools that are in your list.
Duke - high reach
Rice - reach
Brandeis - match
for the others, i don’t know or I’m not sure (for example Harvey Mudd) lol…
your SAT is really not bad though, but of course you can retake it if u have time
your also very dedicated to ur ECs, so that’s good (how can u get LV 10 in piano? isn’t it LV 8 then diploma?)

guess things are different in mainland
we don’t have diplomas for piano lol

LOL
anyway good luck :)

Duke (high high high reach maybe)–reach
Rice–reach
Brandeis–high match
Gatech–match
Carleton–high match
Grinnell–low reach
Harvey Mudd(again suicide)–reach
Oberlin–low reach
Lafayette–high match
Reed–reach

good luck to all(both?) of you
bumpppppp

hehe we all like bumping don’t we?

I think it might be harder for you coming from china than the rest of us. Chinese students at IChO seem to be under teh impression they can’t go to school here unless they medal. I don’t knkow how true this is…

ehhhhhh
I cant understand
can you be more specific?

Despite my status as a lowly freshman… my brother getting in basically all ivies this year has taught me alot. our whole family started to revolve around colleges…

I personally think you should retake the SATs because as applying for an international student colleges tend to have slightly higher expectations and for the schools on your list good SAT scores are a must… but if you think you can spend the time spent studying for the SAT retake doing something more productive in regards to your interests i feel that would also be good.

a downside for you is that your ECs dont seem to relate at all with your intended major. i think that would seem like ur not dedicated or interested enough and these people love to see passion so do something related to your major.

Duke (high high high reach maybe) - reach due to international status, SAT scores, and EC
Rice
Brandeis
Gatech
Carleton
Grinnell
Harvey Mudd(again suicide) - high reach due to ur lack of ECs in relation to ur intended major
Oberlin
Lafayette
Reed

Im not really familiar with the other schools on ur list but good luck!
maybe you should self-study an AP math or bio or chem? something? i dont know what system you have so…

hope that helps/ made sense!

wow this freshman has caught my attention lol
feel free to chance me :)

OK thank you VERY VERY MUCH
uhhm
I have participated in a robot competition summer campus
where I am the leader(?) of a group and we used a software setting parameter, assembled robots to make it motion as we required
but it had nothing to do with programming
I won the first prize that time

uhmm my ECs are not related to my intended majors lol lol
So I’d better choose undecided?huh?
hope it is as cool

the freshman is cool~

haha thanks!

lol yea take a look at my profile
ur totally welcome to do so lol
