Chance Me! Massive List of Schools!

Hi! Currently a Junior...a bit stressed out about applications, partly when I compare myself with the people on here who get in ect. Chance me?

In addition. Since I still have about a year before applications. I would REALLY love feedback on how I can improve. Should I do independent study for APs this year? Do an internship? I'll probably be taking ACT/SAT again so those will improve. Should I retake AP Chem and improve it to a 5?

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2200 (CR: 800, M: 710, W: 690)
[] ACT: 34
[] SAT II: (Math II: 800, Biology/Molecular: 790)
[] Unweighted GPA (Predicted): 3.74
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): School only releases top 10 students. I'm 2-5 out of the 100 students. So colleges will only know that I am in the top 10.
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Bio (5), Chem (4). Predicted for this year: Calc BC, APES, Stats, Comp Sci, Physics C (All 5s)

NOTE: I could (this year), do independent study for a bunch of APs (macro/micro, psych, human geo, music theory, some history).

[] IB (place score in parenthesis): NA
[] Senior Year Course Load (Predicted): Multivariable, APUSH, AP English, Req. fine arts, French VI, (Could also do independent study)
[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit (likely)[/li][/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[li] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis):[/li]Tennis Club (Founder/Pres.)
Stock Market Club (Pres.)
Top 50 tennis player in State
Won some state competitions for piano

[] Job/Work Experience: None
[] Volunteer/Community service: Did around 60 hours at a nature center.
[li] Summer Activities: Lots of tennis, volunteered at the nature center, played basketball.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]

[] School Type: Top private school in state (although it is in the Midwest...and not Illinois) I guess it would be important to note that we do have a number of people who go onto prestigious schools (Yale, Stanford, Brown, ect.)
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: Around 100k
[/ul]

I will be updating what people say about the schools that I am looking at so others can see right on this thread. Here's my list. It is long, but I will be applying to a lot (not all). And keeping my options open for when I actually visit a lot of these this summer.

Thank you to all who reply! Your help is much appreciated.

I’m sorry, but this post is entirely pointless, chance-wise… Did you just go to US News’ top 50 schools and copy ALL of them here? Or do you just have absolutely no idea what you want to do in the future? I can’t think of any other reason why someone would apply to MIT and Pomona at the same time…
Regarding your app, I suggest that you improve your GPA, because 3.74 is a little low for half the schools you listed. And get some ECs outside of school that show true commitment to your passions. Top schools really love seeing that.

Hmm…I thought GPA wasn’t that big of a worry as there is a good chance I will be Salutatorian. My school prides itself on not having much grade inflation…as in Cs are pretty regular, even for good students. (No one has a 4.0 UW, doubt anyone has a 3.9 UW).

As for the long list of schools…I’m working on cutting it down. And who says a person can’t apply to Pomona and MIT? Last year’s Salutatorian did! But yeah…I’m actually considering every school on the list as of now. When I actually visit them it will probably be pruned down a ton.

Really? No one in your school has a 4.0?.. I take it back then. In comparison to other students at your school, a 3.74 may not be bad at all. And once again, I don’t see why you’d apply to both LAC and entirely engineering-oriented schools… Do you really have no idea what you want to major in? Your ECs also don’t show any specific academic interests, just your involvement in sports. Remember, to have a chance at schools like Harvard, you absolutely need to demonstrate a passion for learning - after all, that’s why you’re going to college, isn’t it?
