@TonyGrace ahh got it. Most people love the quad but I see what you mean. There are some new buildings designed to replicate the older ones that have taken away green space. Interestingly despite living in DC for most of my life and going to a feeder jesuit HS, I have not spent much time on GU campus but from what I understand GU is the most secular of the 3 while ND is probably least and VU next. I had one jesuit teacher my freshman year at BC and that is it.

OP here with a profile name change(I realized that I have already potentially doxed my daughter). Thanks for all of the helpful feedback and guidance. Now that August 1 is next week D24 is ready to begin to submit applications. We had a strategy call with SC and got some very interesting information that I thought might also be helpful to others.

SC told us that the rigor can potentially be explained when it is increasing through sr year with increasing grades.
Many of the top schools rank schools based on rigor tiers and higher tiers have a higher rigor built in to the profile.
The Ivies have different profiles that they are looking for. Harvard is looking for the polished kid and nearly perfect. They seem to only take the top applicant from our school while Yale is looking for high talent but looks for the “fit” on campus and how you will get along with your roommate.
SCIOR scattergram grades are based on final grades so if you are comparing scores of previous years understand that. This will make a difference in where my daughter falls if she continues her trajectory.
Scattergram denials RD can reflect withdrawn applications. Ie. girl got into Harvard REA but was rejected from Yale and other Ivies RD when application was withdrawn.
Huge takeaway is to talk early and often to SC because the good ones are tapped in to the AOs and can often get valuable info and provide great guidance.

With the guidance and support of the SC we have decided to REA to Yale (counselor says that the likely outcome is a deferral) which should put us in purgatory. SC said that the AO from yale should be able to give her a good indication if D24 will get a good second review for RD or not. This will gives us the opportunity to pivot and go ED2(likely BC with hook of alum). We will apply EA to UVA, W&M and UMD in the hopes of getting an early in at a great state school. Next will be RD applications at Richmond, Lehigh and potentially Northwestern(that could be ED2 as well with no hook).

Thanks, I appreciate the interest in the journy and the valuable info given here.

You’ve obviously given a lot of thought to the application process so that is great! Just realize if she does decide to pivot to an ED2 school and gets in, Yale will no longer be possible. Also, Northwestern doesn’t have ED2.

Good luck with her journey!

W&M does not offer EA. They have ED and ED 2.

@Greatpyrmom yes that is correct. Brain fart, we actually discussed that yesterday. @Momofthree24 thanks for that info on NU, we were not aware of that, just assumed and you know what they say about assumptions. The pivot would come if she gets denied at Yale or the counselor finds out that she is not likely to get strong consideration in RD (SC is confident that AO will share this info if D24 is deferred). Deferred is dreaded purgatory but we will likely abandon ED2 if she is in contention at Yale in which case hopefully she would alos be in contention at W&M, UVA, Brown etc… She will not get in to BC regular decision from what I have heard from other alums as they do not like being used as an “Ivy Safety” especially from legacy.

Sounds like a well thought out strategy. FWIW, I think she’ll definitely stay in the running at Yale if not accepted early.

Good luck!

I’m sure that your SC is aware that last year Yale reversed course and denied more REA applicants than it deferred – just something to keep in mind. It might be a good idea to have an ED2 school in mind just in case. In trend reversal, Yale now rejects more early applicants than it defers - Yale Daily News

That said, my D was deferred ED1 from a NESCAC a few years ago and refused to apply ED2 because she wanted to see how things played out.
