University of Florida
Florida State University
College of William and Mary
University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill
Wake Forest
Muhlenberg College
Tulane University
Yale University

I am debating on whether or not to add Carnegie Mellon or Bucknell to my list. I also have a background in musical theatre so I am looking at schools with extracurricular opportunities for non-majors.

Please let me know whether or not you think I have a well rounded list and my chances! :) Thank you!

I’d take Math II if I were you. Math I isn’t as highly regarded when applying to selective colleges, and there’s no curve–you have to get everything right to get an 800.

Likely to get into University of Florida, Florida State, William and Mary, Wake Forest, Muhlenbern College, Tulane,

Read my essay for UW-Madison?

Sure RealJohn, and I took Math II and got a 640 which is not very impressive to top schools…

I’d study hard and retake it.
This is from the Stanford website:

“We do not have a preference for the specific SAT Subject Tests you elect to take. However, if you elect to take a math test, we do prefer to see the Math Level 2 test if you feel that your math background has adequately prepared you for this test.”

I feel like you are definitely in UF (Im guessing this is a back up/safety?).

Yale is a reach for anyone. If you could get your ACT up to at least a 34, and your SAT 2s are 750+ (take the Math 2, Math 1 is a joke when the top universities look at your app) then you would have a chance at Yale. You have great ECs, UW is good, I don’t think your UW makes a difference if it is a 3.9 or 4.0, so don’t worry about that. I don’t want to be mean or anything, but there is not much of a chance with that 32. You definitely have as good as a chance as anyone would have if you can pull it up.

UNC Chapel Hill is pretty selective for out of state students. I do think you can get in. My brother got in with no where near your stats and got a full ride, but then again we live in NC, so practically anybody with a 1700+ SAT, 27+ ACT and a 3,6+ UW can get in. But it is a completely different story for out of state students. But I would give you a good chance.

Wake Forest is typically regarded as a better school than UNC Chapel Hill, and for in state students it is much more selective. But it is probably less selective than UNC for out of state student so you have a good chance.

Yale- High Reach (it is for anyone)
UNC- Match
Wake- Match
UF- Safety

University of Florida - low match
Florida State University - safety
College of William and Mary - match
University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill -high match
Wake Forest - match
Muhlenberg College - safety
Tulane University - match
Yale University - high reach

Are you in-state for any of these schools? That could help determine whether a school is really a match, reach, or safety. For instance, UNC Chapel Hill, and to a lesser extent William and Mary, have a large percentage of instate students required by the state, therefore making it more competitive for OOS applicants

Coincidentally, I am considering the same majors as you. William and Mary is strong in the areas you specified and actually has a major called “environmental science, with a focus on policy” if that’s what you’re interested in. Although they are very strong in regular government, economics, and public policy majors as well. The major I mentioned above actually requires you to take courses that connect economics with public policy, which sounds like exactly what you are looking for. Good luck!

Edit: I just reread your post and it seems that you are instate for Florida. Can your parents afford the tuition at public OOS schools? If not, you may want to redefine your college list a bit as the primary goal of public institutions is to meet 100% of need for instate students, so if needing FA looking for schools that have strong merit or need based aid programs should be considered
