Hello, I am from a public school in Martin County, Florida
A few may dwindle from my list as the time gets closer to application season. A few of the schools I am simply applying to because of connections ( Villanova and F&M). My Scores on the ACT as of June 2015 are a 27 composite and 29 super score. My Sat scores are 1750 super score and I most likely will not be sending them in, since my ACT is much more competitive than my SAT. My scores at first may not look extremely appealing to a few on this list, but my grades are spectacular compared to my scores. I am ranked 35/505 in my class (top 6%), I have a GPA of 3.9 with all AP and honors classes and a weighted GPA of about a 4.45. In my Junior year, I only received one B+ in AP Physics 2 . My only other B was in Chemistry the year before (No, science is not my calling). I am musically talented and could pursue music, but I have decided a different path for myself. University of Miami is my top choice school right now ( and I have a very reliable connection) , but I am scared with my ACT score that they were not accept me. My extracurriculars include being Class Vice President for my senior class (President my Junior class), Membership Chair of the Student Government Association, Secretary of my choir, OPUS ( the best choir in the state of Florida), and an active member of National Honors Society and Youth in Government. One of my greatest achievements through high school has been starting a club, which has now become extremely popular int he community. I started Artists for a Cause at my school, and I am the president of it. In its first year, it had over 75 people in the club. I feel like this will be a great asset to my applications (COLLEGES LOVE THAT KIND OF STUFF). Other than academics, I am active in sports (1 year varsity Lax and 3 years varsity Track, Music Theater, Circus, and Dance). I also will have over 800 hours of community service from all of the club meetings I’ve attended and Choir concerts and events, too.
I am posting this on here for feedback. Tell me what I need to do, tell me how I can get into these schools, tell me if there is one that I have NO chance of getting into. PLEASE LET ME KNOW… I really need the feedback, because my college councilor is asking me take off 2-3 schools from my list.
Your counselor (not your councilor) is asking you to reduce your list.
Your GPA and rank are very good, but understand that there are many, many kids with very high GPAs. Getting into UTexas as an OOS student can be difficult. Will your parents pay the high OOS rate? The COA is probably about $45k+ per year.

?? What does that mean??
Have you asked your parents how much they’ll pay each year? If not, do so.
What does your Artists with a Cause club do? What is its mission? What has it accomplished?
Yes, they are willing to pay the tuition. I am only asking for advice on admissions . I’ve done all of the research with my parents. I wasn’t asking for you to question my income, but thanks for the passive aggressive feedback
University of Miami does, and that is my number one, so I put it. I have a 33 on english, 30 on math 27 on science, and 24 on reading ( those are my highest sub scores)
Are any of those colleges test-optional? The rest of your application is so much stronger than your test scores that you would seem an ideal candidate at test-optional schools. I think you have a decent shot at most of your colleges, nevertheless. If interested in Music Business, have you also considered Drexel and Loyola-New Orleans. My son has a number of friends who have gone to both of those schools as Music Business majors.
thank you so much for the help ! I have looked at Drexel, but I am turned off by the fact that it is a completely urban campus. Concerning Loyola, I am greatly considering this school and will be visiting it when I visit Tulane. The only test-optional school I am applying to is Wake Forest, and I am confident about this school considering the rest of my application is of great standards for them. Thank you!
Unless your father donated a building I really doubt your connections will help you in admissions. Your ACT scores is way too low for UTx. Can you afford all those out of state schools like UC Boulder? Have you run the Net Price Calculators on the schools’ web sites?
I merged two identical threads.
Don’t spam the forums with the same question asked three different ways.
@Mom2collegekids has been helping kids on this forum since you were in grade school. She’s hardly passive aggressive. I have a feeling she has no problem telling teens exactly what’s on her mind.
You’d be surprised how many kids come on these forums after having been assured by parents that they’d pay for expensive colleges. Then, come April, parents find out that there’s less aid than they imagined, or they balk at paying the cost of the student’s favorite because there’s a cheaper option… Any manner of things can and do happen, so it’s a fair question.
