Taking SAT 2 in June

Major: Computer Science

I’m not sure how they’ll handle that semester where I had bad circumstances, but if you don’t count it in the GPA then I have a 3.98 GT GPA

Anyone? I’m just asking since my GPA changed since the last one.

The GPA is good but the SAT seems a little low. I would take the ACT in Sept it can’t hurt. It may end up being a better score than your SAT.

Your GPA is good, but only about average, since the average GT GPA was a 4.0 this year for admitted students. I’m pretty sure if you get all A’s with that many AP courses, your GT GPA will be higher than 4.0 for Senior year, but either way, your GT GPA cumulative should be slightly higher than this year’s average.

Like MichiganGeorgia said, get that SAT up, or try the ACT. You’ll have to aim for at least a 2200 to stand out, since this year’s average accepted SAT was a 2150. Something that many people seem to forget is that next year, Georgia Tech will also be using the Common App for the first time, so you’ll be facing a much larger collection of students. Also, since engineering is a widely discussed major in today’s day and age, especially by many tech companies hoping to recruit from a deficit in the population, there will be scores of people applying to GTech. This will put some pressure on GTech to accept more out of state students, and even internationals. Your in-state status will help, what with GTech being a public university and all, but it won’t have the same weight that it normally does, especially since you’re an Asian male going for Computer Science.

All in all, make sure you try your best Senior year to keep your grades the best they can be, watch out for Senioritis, get that SAT up there, or switch over the ACT and aim for at least a 34, write some solid essays, teachers recs are optional, so they won’t have the same weight as everything else so make sure it’s a good one, since the only thing GTech will use them for is to weed out the lesser students, and last but not least, love thy safeties. Best of luck!

I think the SAT is fine unless you are going for the presidents scholarship. Just make sure your essays are excellent and you will probably get in. As long as you are in “the pack” with SAT and GPA, your essay will get you in. This is because everyone has stellar grades and scores that apply to tech. The essays are where you can stand out. Btw, community service never hurts.

Yeah, right now I’m focused on the subject tests, and I’m trying to get 750+ on math 2 and physics. Then I’m going to start studying for the SAT and follow some of the “How to get a 2400” threads. I’m probably not getting a 2400 but it will help me get a 2200+. I’ll also be programming a lot over the summer, and I can show that programming is a hobby of mine in an essay or something. I’ll also focus on getting all A’s when school starts.

You should definitely apply to both Georgia Tech and UGA! When you apply to Tech admissions looks at SAT/ACT, GPA/Rigor of Curriculum, extracurricular activities, and the essay. The averages for the class of 2013 were 2150 for the SAT, 32 for ACT, and 3.995 GPA. SAT Subject Tests are optional for Tech and they do not really look at them so they dont post averages for those. Never let the averages that schools post intimidate you when applying. If you are interested in that school (especially Tech) then you should apply! You never know what admissions might see in your application!

I got a 770 Math 2 and 740 Physics if that helps

I’d give you a 70% chance of getting in. Maybe not EA, but I don’t see them rejecting you in the RD wave.

Finally got my AP’s back, ended up getting a 4 on CS and 5 on Physics B.
