I’m going to try to transfer after one year with the knowledge that it is very difficult to do so.
HS GPA: 3.7
SAT: 2140
ACT: 32
Great EC’s
Father went to Michigan
Sibling is applying this year and will definitely get in
I applied last year RD (stupid choice) as a senior and got waitlisted/rejected.
Univ. GPA: haven’t started yet, but I 100% want to transfer and am very determined to do so, so for the sake of this post, let’s say 3.8
University: top 25 public school, top 80 national university, generic state school
Will have 32 transferrable credits (maybe 35 if I can take winter classes) + 6 from APs - I know this is much lower than what Michigan looks for.
Will have an on-campus job and decent ECs
I know a lot of this is hypothetical because I haven’t even started college yet but I’m just trying to get a feel for if I have any chance of transferring or if I should be more realistic and try after a year and a half or two years. Do I have any shot?
Well. First off all where do you want to transfer? Ross is going to be way harder than other colleges.
Your SAT, HS GPA won’t matter too much anymore. What are your EC’s? In my opinion working/volunteering isn’t going to help too much. If you want something convincing you need internships, work experience, or some other way to show interest in your declared major. How strong will your essay be?
It is pretty pointless to hypothetically chance you. Just look at the stats; are you above, or below the average? Your college GPA is the most important factor.
@Vincent1997 Sorry for not being more specific. I’m looking to transfer to LSA to study biology on a pre-med track. I think my EC’s are pretty nice but I could be wrong. I’m a volunteer EMT and have over 1100 hours of community service under my belt. I’m also the leader of all of the high school EMTs on my squad which is a really time-consuming role. I was in a health education club for 9 months where I and 19 other selected HS seniors in my state would travel to high schools, middle schools, and juvenile detention centers to talk about sex education, homophobia reduction, and STI/AIDS prevention. This equated to another 250ish hours of community service. Additionally, I played for a club soccer team that won two state championships and was ranked among the top ten best teams in the country in our age group. I was also in NHS and did Varsity track & field and soccer throughout high school. In terms of college EC’s, I have a food service job on campus already but I’m going to quit that if I get the EMT job that I applied for. I’m also planning on joining a few clubs but that’s about it. I want to spend the semester busting my butt and making sure my GPA is great so I haven’t been too focused on building my EC’s yet. I’m going to make sure my essays are great but I won’t really know how they look until I’ve written them. You’re right - it seems a little pointless to hypothetically chance me. I’m just anxious, I guess. Thanks a lot for the advice and I hope this clarifies things a bit.
I think you have a very good chance of being accepted as a transfer
The EC’s look really good and relate to your major, which is a big plus. I think if you are able to have an above average GPA, you will have a really good shot.
@illinoisgolf @Vincent1997 thank you, hopefully you’re right!
