Did you take the SAT or ACT yet ? If so, do you mind sharing out your scores because it will help to get a better perspective of where you stand in the application pool.
@Jerryjin Hello thank you for responding. I got a 1220 on the SAT and will be sending that. I know that it is not the best but I knew Midd would be a reach for me.
I recently started a club with my friend that focuses on diversity, mental health and inclusion at my school. We will talk to the administrative board at the end of the year and have started to work on mental health in my school.
I changed my essay topic. I wrote about swinging on a swing in a special place to me and my journey through out life on the swing. (Good comments about that).
I have two great recommendations, one from a former Alum of Midd.
No one likes to minimize accomplishments or make someone feel bad. Honestly, Middlebury is a reach for everyone because of the low acceptance rate. You already know your GPA and test scores are on the low side. You are interested in Molecular Biology but only have one AP class in a STEM subject and other applicants will probably have more. While you have some interesting courses and some good ECs, getting accepted there will be a big challenge.
@helpingmom40 I agree that having only one AP class in stem isn’t the best. But do you think having interned at Boston Children’s Hospital in a Lab will show my motivation to that subject?
Midd is such a competitive school to get into. If your GPA and test scores were higher, the internship might make a difference in helping you stand out in the applicant pool but I don’t think it will do enough to elevate your application to the level of those with higher stats. I could be wrong so if your school has Naviance, you can look to see how students from your school did in terms of acceptance.
@nickgaj You have many accomplishments of which you can be justifiably proud. However, the average GPA of accepted students is around 3.9, the mid 50% range of SAT scores is 1390-1460, and last year’s acceptance rate was 17%. You will be applying RD, and the acceptance rate for RD is 12.9%.
I’m sorry, but your chances are pretty slim. You may get in, but it’s unlikely. However, if you don’t mind paying the application fees, go for it - the only way you can have a certain 0% chance of being accepted is if you don’t apply. Just make sure that you have some matches and a safety which you would be happy to attend.
@helpingmom40 and @MWolf Thank you for your help! I just submitted my application to Middlebury. I am applying RD because after visiting some other colleges I decided Middlebury wasn’t the best for me. I would be thrilled if I got in but at the same time, won’t be too sad when I get rejected. Thanks again for your help!
I know someone who is a second year at Middlebury whose stats aren’t as good as yours. They definitely didn’t have the ECs you have. I think you are in.
