Chance Me: MIT and UC Berk for Computer Science

I am new here so please excuse any informalities

I am very passionate about computer science, and after much research, I believe UC Berk and MIT are the place for me. All I have to do now is apply and get accepted!

Chance Me:

  • Demographically unfavorable male
  • 1550 SAT
  • 750 SATII : Bio M and Math II
  • 3.93 GPA
  • 4.40 wGPA
  • Go to an IB School, but will not receive IB Diploma (I am taking 5HLs, diploma only allows 4 max)
  • Created and published Android phone application
  • Created internal scheduling program for museum
  • Work at local children's science center (<3)
  • Conducted research at an NSBRI lab (Mainly chem invovled, but there was MATLAB based coding too)
  • Worked with library and local university to teach librarians and families how to use arduinos
  • Founded technology club (TSA) at school
  • Long standing officer in 3 science related clubs
  • Taught computer science at elementary schools for 5 years
  • Worked with Dubai company to write some database algorithms and create graphical elements
  • Black belt, competitive biker, play guitar
  • Other minor techy things

My computer science teacher offered to write a great rec letter for me as well

I love everything I do. Else I wouldn’t do it.

I posted this earlier, I just put it in the wrong forum

Why didn’t you aim for the diploma? Also, Berkeley doesn’t provide financial aid to OOS students. (if you are one)

I could have done the Diploma no problem, it is just I found it too much of a cookie cutter program. I would rather take advanced sciences than be forced to take another year of Spanish and social studies.

Thanks for the financial insight

Smart move, show colleges science interest when it counts rather than later. Builds into your theme. Let me know when you get accepted xD

I think you should have done Diploma, it is a pain in the ass, but not taking it may reflect poorly. I’m also taking 5 HLs and getting Diploma lol.

Your chance is the same as other qualified applicants, no better and no worse. And because so many applicants to these schools are well qualified, the chances remain relatively low.
