Chance Me MIT (ED) - Will Chance Back!

3.75 unweighted, Graduating with 10 AP Classes. Low mainly because of my insane laziness freshmen & sophomore year.
Not exactly sure about school ranking.
Asian :(

SAT II: 800 Biology E, 800 US History, 800 Physics

AP Exams: Euro - 5, Biology - 5, Physics - 5, US History -5

SAT I: 2390

-Science Olympiads - Won a 2nd place medal at regionals.
-Model UN
-Academic Team - Vice President, performed very well at tournaments.
-Spanish Honor Society

~200 Hours of Community Service at an Assisted Living Home

Teacher Recs: Decent, I'd say.

oh, and the SAT I was exactly:
CR - 800, Math - 800, Writing - 790

gpa is low but could be helped a little by a prominent upward trend. hgih sat and sat2 but ecs are lacking a little.

mit=mid/high reach

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1022392-chance-me-stanford-ea-one-last-time.html</a></p>

Yeah, I probably should’ve taken an oppurtunity to do some sort of research because my EC’s are kinda weak.

And my grades just really shot up from a 3.6 (cumulative by end of sophomore) to just about a 4.0 for junior and currently this year so I hope they noticed that I definitely plan to continue the trend.

u look awfully like my friend, and she wants to go 2 MIT too
GPA 3.9 unweighted
SAT 2250
SAT II US 780, Bio 770, Math2 800, Chem 790
AP calc 5, Ap language 5, Ap Gov 5, Ap Chem 5

ECs
200+hr community work(not sure what is it)
president of school environmental club
National Honors Society
and she probably has more

the key pt is that she got a rec from a Princeton professor
and she said her chances of getting in was 50%

Oh wow, didn’t know I was really that screwed. :/

I’d say a medium reach. You’re GPA is a tad low and you’re EC’s are a tad weak. Obviously the scores are great and in-range. Someone from my school last yr (also asian :)) had slightly worse scores, but like 3.85 and better EC’s. I definitely wouldn’t rule it out though.

there’s a senior last year at my school who got in and she was korean… :open_mouth:
our school is really average too,… idk about her gpa (she wasnt valedictorian or anything), but she had good scores… for her ec all i heard from others was that she had debate all four years, cross country all four years, and nhs pres, also working at some lab outside… i think it really depends on how long you participated in your ec

your scores a amazing! and that upward trend will help. you never can know with ivies so i’d say mid reach for mit

Thanks! and MIT isn’t ivy just so you know. ;)

High reach. Although your test scores are very good, MIT is more concerned with demonstrating special talents in particular fields. Test scores are less important than achievements because all applicants are in the top range.

thanks for the responses, bump

Mid reach because of gpa and lack of an outstanding science/engineering/math award.

chance me here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1024234-chance-me-if-you-dont-like-when-people-title-threads-all-capitals.html</a></p>

You definitely have good enough grades to be in that league (they really like seeing growth), but try to emphasize how you are unique in your essays and your extracurriculars.

oh ya you owe me a chance back :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1024197-chance-me-three-pharmd-programs-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Done, and yeah there is definitely a HUGE differences in grades from 9th & 10th to 11th.

I thought MIT was EA, not ED

It is, I made a typo in the title. :S

I’d say mid reach unless you omitted some leadership/EC stuff. They just have so many kids with those scores but better GPA.

Mid Reach because of your gpa and also because well… it’s MIT :)

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1024423-chance-me-ucla-ucb-cornell-washu-will-chance-back.html</a></p>

Your app is almost great. The real hang-up is that 790 in Writing for SATI. I mean, really? You get 800 in everything else and then go and screw that up? This looks really bad to adcoms. I suggest retaking for your regular decisions…

Good luck and Don’t fail - you’ll need it.
