Hi guys! I’m about to send in my regular decision applications for the schools above and I’d like to know vaguely what to expect. I’m a white girl from an upper-middle class family on the west coast looking to major in computational neuroscience. Got deferred from Stanford early action
No legacy connections at any of the above schools.
GPA: 3.997/4.379, both should increase after this semester.
Class Rank: there’s a 3-way tie for 1st, so I’m 4th.
SAT: 1580 (R/W 790, Math 800)
SAT II: Math - 790, English - 800, Physics - 750 (not great because I’m on the IB system instead of AP, so I had to memorize the physics curriculum a week before the test)
Full-IB diploma candidate: HL English, Physics, Spanish, and Math; SL Computer Science and Psychology.
Impressive (?) Extracurriculars:
Founding a nonprofit that works with low-income defendants held on bail to ensure that they can go home before trial
Constitution Team - won district, state, and national competitions
Selected for a multi-year summer internship at local university; last year, my team programmed a basic neural network that could steer a car.
Extracurriculars:
Mock Trial - captain of a bad team, I’m working to recruit better coaches and participants
National Charity League - over 75 league service hours annually, won a chapter award for three years running and am currently VP of Programs
Volunteering with developmentally disabled kids at the local hospital
Project Lemonade - a volunteer retail job with an organization that provides new clothes to foster kids
Athletics:
Soccer - 4 years, JV team captain junior year and Varsity this year
Physical therapy - for chronic pain, prevents other seasons of sports
Work:
Soccer referee in fall, spring, and sporadically over the summer (based on tournament schedules)
Talent with a modeling agency
I think that I interview well, and I’ve visited most of the schools to demonstrate interest. I wrote essays on my experience with the bail fund, my late ADHD diagnosis, my perspective on the strange exclusivity of male nerd culture, and on coping with a disability that makes participating in athletics (I’ve loved soccer since age 5, etc) difficult.
If there are any other details that could be helpful, let me know!
