Sure. You’re competitive. Apply ED. Penn’s ED acceptance rate is higher than the RD rate, so you’re likely to get a slight advantage in applying ED.

Your stats will need to go up. When I first saw that, I thought it said 3.9 UW. A 3.9 W is quite low, no matter if you’re applying early or regular

@WhartonnotHYPS, without knowing the specific school, you can’t make any definite comment about an applicant’s GPA. Since it sounds like @zmazooka goes to a well know school, what’s important is how her GPA compares to the students who have gotten accepted to schools like Penn in the past.

I came from a high school that did not inflate grades so if I had posted my unweighted GPA on here before I applied ED, people would have said I had no shot at all. However, my weighted GPA put me in the top 5% in the top open enrollment school in my state so I actually was competitve for Penn.

^^^ Your situation is different from hers. She is from a top school in CA, and with 8APs she should have at least a 4.0weighted. I think I know which school she goes to and they do send a lot of kids to Penn. Her school should have naviance for Penn and all she has to do is ask.

Actually it sounds like Harvard-Westlake. They sent around 17 kids to Penn my year so I assume they probably accepted 30-35. So it really depends on your class rank. To be competitive you would probably need to be in the top 50 students.

OP, you need to consult your college adviser at school to see which schools are matches and safeties. I think you can afford private schools and they are your best bet because their admissions are more holistic given your ECs are very good.
Not to be pessimistic but your weighted GPA may not gain admission to the flagship UCs like UCB and UCLA or even UCSD.
Good luck.

Thanks guys. My deans on vacation so she won’t answer emails so turned to you guys. Yeah I’m not really expecting anything from UCs except ucla because very very good connections. But I live in LA so I don’t really want to go there anyway. I guess I’ll just wait for her response.

Yeah I did the super match thing and it turned to be 50% Scattergram showed people who applied early around my stats had a decent chance. Im still super skeptical :L

Well the scattergram misses a lot of important information like the quality of essays, recommendations and extracurricular involvement. It also misses whether or not your grades have an upward or downward trend. If your best grades are in junior year, you have a much higher chance than someone who peaked in freshman year.
