kudos to whoever actually reads all of this...and please excuse my horrible spelling

thanks a lot

Well, if you’re Bier S, then you obviously have some family connections within the radiology world, for most of your publications are co-authored with Bier K.

cato1…
bier k is my twin brother lol
good catch though lol…

Haha my mistake.

Good shot though. Those publications are impressive.

Quite honestly, your EC’s are very impressive but your SAT scores seem slightly below average for the Ivies’ standards. Also, I’m certain that Harvard requests 3 SAT II’s spo I suggest you take a last one for that. Your EC’s seems to be, like you pointed out, your biggest factor. They’re very impressive and certainly stand out from the rest. I also saw you took WTP :D… I was in WTP last year. My team represented Florida at the nationals last yr - Did you represent NJ in DC that yr? (and I’m sure that WTP is a moderate, at least, factor for EC’s, especially if you win at states’)

LOL
since when was M.D. News a reputable journal.
These aren’t publications…i dont know exactly what they are.
Stick with ed duke.

dude, google M.D. News. then you can say something.
to fenderbender 4815: nice ECs and publications. what about grades, though? “screwing around junior year” isn’t exactly what colleges want to see. other than that, very impressive.

first of all thanks to all of you guys for reading that post…
i wrote it last last night and read it agian this morning and i realized i sounded like a ****ing idiot…so dont hold that agianst me lol

cato: thanks for the input, but good shot where?

zam: yeah we did represent new jersey…i go to east brunswick we represent nj every year pretty much lol…im planning on taking the SATS agian and i probably will end up with a 2200…im taking practice tests…and my math score and writing are much better (i did not practice much at all last time…plus the curve was ridiculous i got 2 questions wrong and 1 ommited and i got a 710 in march, my bro took it in june and got 2 wrong and got a 770, and my friend in june got 3 wrong and got a 750 i think)…so if assuming i get a 750 what do you think?

omg9000 aka vegeta…i hope your being sincere becz ive seen some of your other posts and you only like bashing other kids…md news ir reputable…there is only so many journals that will take a student with no md, even more so that im a high school student…but i have published in other journals AND have republished the articles in opther magazines…the prob being that it is taking so long to edit that they are prob coming out somtime next june…regardless i dont feel i need to justify my work being as that you obviously have not even read it…

:) : my grades are good, weak in math (bplus’s) but straight A’s in sciecne (including AP and physics h, and chem) plus i got an A in ucla summer course for chem with real college students…i have one weak blips like a cplus in precalc h but thats it

my dilemma is more whether i should apply ed to duke or wait it out and throw in some more reaches…the one drawback being if i get denied to all of them and duke which would suck…and i dont expect anyone to say i have a good shot at harvard etc. becz realistically…its a longshot for anyone…

and does anyone know how heavily they weight elective courses (like b.s. ones like art) or do they only weight academic ones like hist and science etc…cz if they do my gpa would be higher…

again thanks a lot all of you…anymore input would be great…dont waste too much of your lives reading my resume lol

MD news is a magazine, not a peer reviewed journal
And i am being sincere here…There are more opportunities than you may think to publish in actual peer reviewed journals…
But then again, if you’re just searching for praise, ignore my input. I’m just letting you know this really isn’t a hook, I know many others who have much more profound research experience.

Sweet that you got published.

I’d say publications would help a lot. Means you took advantage of finding profs who could help you.

“There are more opportunities than you may think to publish in actual peer reviewed journals”
did you not read my post at all? I said that i am being published in other peer reviewed journals…but i expect them done no earlier than feb.
i did not expect them to take this long to be honest…md news really hauled ass to publish the article…
but to counter you point…i have real findings…through pcr and gel electro. i discovered a new ribosomal protein…and my publication on legal responsibilities of women breast imagers provoked a response from the most prominent mammographer (whos name i will withhold but you can easily find him on Google) who disagreed with my viewpoint…and proceed to write me…we then had a lengthy discussion and reconciled somewhat…
but i do agree with you and think i should just apply ed to duke

to everyone else..what do you think??? should i apply ed to duke or wait it out and add more reach schools and hope to get into one of them…im afraid of not getting into any of them and duke if i do…any thoughts!?

Nothing wrong with Duke. I’d say its much better depending on what you want to major in. Check out JHU if you are interested in Pre-med. I’m ED ing there, BME though. Also, in terms of career paths, check out interventional radiology. Seems like that is where you wanna head towards.

Chuck in a few reach schools, that is what im doing. I’m kind of similar to you except my experience is catered towards surgical case studies and internships in general/ neurosurgery (dubai+india+canada)… so I am not an expert (yet) on publications… all i can say is, we both found what we liked and you’re a definite ACCEPTANCE to Duke… in my opinion.

thats def true…im thinking of majoring in either physics/some other science (BME) or business…

im going to throw in a bunch of reach schools…but im wary of not applying early to duke…
what is everyone’s opionion of me getting into duke RD??

and even if i get into my reach schools i may not go there…if they dont truly fit my major (for example..if i go for BME i would still pick Duke)

any more input on whether i could get into Duke RD would be great

bumpity bump

bump again

what explains your low gpa for junior year? what was your gpa junior year? course load junior year? junior year is the most important year of high school, so these r important qs.

nothing just immaturity, partying too much with my friends…my gpa was around a 3.4
courses:
physics h: A
world lit h: B
ap hist: B+
precalc h: c+
econ: A-
internatioanl buissness: A

still a tough courseload…

senior year (so far and going to end up with by end of second semester):
ap calc ab: A
ap physics: A
ap macro: A
eng 1 and 2H: A
music: a

again my main dillema is whether i can get into duke RD, i think my EC’s will balance out junior year…though if someone thinks otherwise please tell me lol

bumppppppppppp

Well… i still think u shouldnt have a low average in math bro… i mean seriously… i did something similar to you and managed to do no math hmwk and get a better grade… even if u were publishing/researching, u do know the universities are looking at GPA as a future reference to what you MIGHT earn in their freshman year of college… that is just my opinion… u might wanna think about ur major again… physics/BME is three times the work… Usually BME students double major in Math, due to the loads of math courses required of you… but if you can manage definitely do it… RD of Duke seems hard… mainly cuz like ud have to make sure they see ur serious midterm senior grades lol… But man if they reject u cuz u got like just .3 point GPA off the minimum 3.7 they like but have like loads of ECs, they are stupid… i cant foresee anything… but id say ud get accepted RD… but thats basing it on the fact that they kind of slide by ur GPA and notice the Publications first… also u better centre ur applications around the radiology publications… or else itd just be an EC + abstract…

just my opinion

If you applied Duke ED you’d get in.
