p.s. i wanna major in bio or biomedical engineering

I will be a biology major next year and applying as one to an Ivy is extremely difficult. However, I think you should apply. You never know if you get in. I am assuming you are taking SAT IIs in January. If so, have you determined the subjects? Also, I would think that if you send a lot of Harvard material, they might think that you place Harvard higher than them so just keep that in mind.
Good luck!

I agree with all of this. Sorry, but I really don’t think you have much of a chance. Try a few of the less competitive schools…

As cheesy as it sounds, Brown really is looking for people who will be the best fit for its potential class of 2013. So regardless of test scores, your obvious enthusiasm for biology makes you stand out. I echo Yale13’s warning about hymns to Harvard. So talk about biology instead, and how much it means to you.

Honestly, the SAT is a test quantifying your ability to take tests. It isn’t the most important factor of your application. However, if your lack of confidence in your own abilities (“I don’t stand out, my scores aren’t too great”) translates, that WILL be a showstopper.

Apply. What’s the worst that can happen?

let me know if you get in. and someone tell me this, I went to a great private school that was challenging, and ended up with a 3.5. Honestly, no offense, I am way smarter than this person, holding an internship at mit nanotech lab, 2000 on SAT and great essays and recommendations. But I want the truth, was my highschool’s prestige actually worth it, or just all hype and ********.

^ as far as i know, high school is just prep for college. i dont see how prestige has anything to do with anything (unless that prestige translates to rigor and good preparation). public school can be just as good as private. it depends on the student and how they use their resources. college is no different.

in response to this thread: just calm down. be confident, and express yourself in a way that reflects your genuine passions. i got in with less than perfect SAT scores. you really just need to look at the bigger picture.

good luck.

Oooooh… 10 char

Improved my SAT score to nearly a 2000
but I guess it was not good enought for Brown.
ACT went up only to a 29.
Actually my UW GPA was a 3.97 and W was 4.30.
Took pains to write esp, Brown essays.
But did not get in. But atleast got into
some good colleges. Getting into
any Ivy I think is a Crap Shoot.):

wait so did you no get in? I thought your stats were great! with exception of SATs
