I just attended a somewhat selective, all-expenses paid, 10-day program for girls in math at Duke.
I also volunteer at a local organization, helping with bookkeeping and event planning.
My school does not offer computer science, so I am going to teach myself how to code or take an online class on my own time this summer in computer science.

Applying for Financial Aid?: Yes
Intended Major: Undecided, I haven’t had a lot of exposure to the different types of engineering
State: North Carolina
School Type: Private, all-girls, boarding/day
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female

I didn’t realize until this year that I wanted to study engineering, as I hadn’t had much exposure prior. Is this a problem? Also, does it help that I am a girl interested in engineering?

Do you have any suggestions to improve my chances of getting in?

Thank you so much!

Excellent chance of acceptance into any of the Engineering majors. I would not be concerned about the fact that you just became interested in Engineering. In fact, you might change your mind again after Freshman year, and decide on a Math degree. Also, being a female with your resume and potential makes your application all that more attractive to the STEM Depts. Keep up the great work!
