Ultimate frisbee is a unique sport. Make sure you show colleges your passion for it. What major are you heading for? Your ECs seem kinda jumbled. SAT score and gpa are pretty good.
Northwestern: reach
Duke: low reach
upenn: reach
JHU: high match
USC: match
UCLA: high match
UC. Berkeley: low reach
Try applying ED for your “reaches”, and you’ll probably get into one or more.
Good luck!
Chance me back: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1672761-chance-me-for-stanford-university.html</a></p>

I think you were pretty spot on, though I think you could get into Duke without ED, so if you like Northwestern better, go for it! Good luck and chance me back? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673832-will-chance-back-chance-me-for-cmc-barnard-bryn-mawr-columbia-stanford-cornell-umich-stern.html#latest</a></p>

does ED mean erectile dysfunction? I am so confused

duke’s early admittance rate is over twice that of its RD. If u like Duke, apply early

Okay, I am also confused. Did you get a 2200 on your SATs? Or is that your objective?

BTW: You’re OOS for California; don’t use UCs as safeties.

Northwestern: Reach
Duke: Low Reach
Upenn: Reach
JHU: Low Reach
USC: High Match
UCLA: High Match
UC Berkeley: Low Reach

Chance me and my friend back?

Friend:

http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1673907-chance-my-friend-for-uci-and-ucsb-will-chance-back.html?new=1</a></p>

I mean, you basically organized everything your self lol. I’ll just slightly reorganize it.

High Reach:
Duke (Early Decision/Regular Decision)
Northwestern University (Early Decision/Regular Decision)- Low Reach if ED
Johns Hopkins University
University of Pennslvania

Low Reach:
Washington University in St. Louis
UNC- Chapel Hill since OOS
Berkeley- Since OOS
Michigan- Since OOS
UCLA Since OOS

High Matches:
University of Southern California
UCSD
UCSB

Safeties:
University of Washington

Thanks guys!!!

Also, I am planning on majoring in Cellular/Molecular Biology for JHU and WUSTL, Neurobiology for Duke and University of Washington, and Biology for the rest.
I am also planning on doing Pre-Med.

I am trying to decide between applying to Duke ED and Northwestern ED. I personally like Duke a little better because of its outstanding Pre-Med program but I’m afraid that I wouldn’t have that great of a shot of getting into Duke even if I applied ED. I also like Northwestern, though not as much as Duke, but I think that I have a pretty solid shot of getting in if I apply ED. So basically my dilemma is whether I should “waste” using my Earl Decision application on a high reach school like Duke, when I can use it on a lower reach school like Northwestern…Any Suggestions? THANK YOU!

Also, I acknowledge that being passionate about Ultimate Frisbee and being pretty good at ti is very unique and something that should be highlighted in my application.
However, as I am doing my common application, I am having trouble finding a way to emphasize my passion for Ultimate Frisbee.
-My common app essay has nothing to do with Frisbee, and I’m pretty happy with it
-Most of the supplements are “why do u wanna go to this coollege?” and I can’t talk too much about Frisbee there.
-The common app gives you barely any space to describe your extracurricular activites so I can’t convey my love for the sport.

Any Suggestions??

THANK YOU ALL!!!

I would say apply early decision to Duke if thats your top choice. You don’t want to have to wonder what if. I think youd still have a good shot at Northwestern regular decision.

Yea thats what I was thinking too…thanks! Just looking at the early decision thread from last year for Duke, everyone who was accepted/deferred was in the top 2% of there class whereas im barely top 5%…and my application seems very average for a duke applicant :/

Im visiting NU and Duke later this month so hopefully i’ll get a better idea of which college I truly like more!

At Duke, the neuroscience major is one of the most competitive to be accepted into at Trinity. Your CR score needs to rise to be at the top of the heap of applicants. You are top 5% of your class, despite a heavy IB load.

However I’m having trouble understanding the fit between Ultimate frisbee and a future pre-med?? Please explain

You could check out the ultimate frisbee programs at specific schools and find a way to work in how you’re super excited to continue pursuing your passion at said school. Just a suggestion to try to show your passion for ultimate without writing your common app essay about it.

@sgopal2‌ haha yea Ultimate Frisbee is just a sport that I love to play, but for obvious reasons, I wouldnt wanna make a career off of playing Ultimate Frisbee cuz thats just unrealistic. Academically, I am most passionat about biology and medicine…there really is no connection between the two…although I love sports and sports medicine??

@sgopal2‌ Also thats good to know about the neuroscience major at Duke! thanks for sharing that with me, I wouldve never realized! I also love Chemistry and Biology…

Out of Neuroscience, Chemistry, and Biology, which is the least competitive for Duke?

All are competitive for Trinity. Neuroscience is probably the largest department of the 3 you mention however. Don’t try to pick a major based upon how easy you think it is to get into. Instead make your decision based upon where you would be happiest.

@sgopal2‌ thank you so much, your insights are much appreciated! I know i would be satisfied with pretty much any major at Dke lol…but honestly anything related biochem would make me happy…i just thought my past research in neurobiolgy would make me a good candidate for the neuroscience major. from what ive heard, Bio is the most competitive but its all word of mouth. But I definitely agree with you…I should stick to what I want regardless of competitiveness…NO REGRETS!!

I think UCB and UCLA are not matches, more like low reaches.

Hi there-- thanks for chancing me!

You look like a solid applicant-- great ECs, several leadership roles (ultimate frisbee sounds really interesting!) and your SAT scores good as well. I think you have a good shot at both Duke and Northwestern RD so just pick whichever one you like best.

However, you’re out of state for UC’s so I wouldn’t use them as safeties.

Duke - Reach
Northwestern University - Reach
Johns Hopkins University - Low Reach
University of Pennslyvania - High Reach
Washington University in St. Louis - Low Reach
University of California-Los Angeles - Low Reach
University of California-Berkeley - Low Reach
University of Southern California - High Match
University of Michigan - High Match
University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill - Low Reach
University of California-Santa Barbara - Match
University of California-San Diego - High Match
University of Washington - Safety

Best of luck in all your future endeavors!
