EC’s: 200+ volunteer hours at hospital (ER and ICU), lots and lots of photography awards junior year (both national and regional/state), national AP scholar, internship at local photography studio, taking care of my grandmother, did competitive gymnastics (grade 9, 10, 11)
Rec Letters: I think they are very strong, one of mine is from the hospital I volunteered at
I agree with @pkgny2022 for nursing you need to bring your up your ACT score especially for OOS. As I understand it ther are only about 85-90 spots per year for nursing. Very very competitive.
Clemson nursing capacity has now doubled to about 180 spots because one cohort will do clinicals in Greenville, work/study through the summer before senior year, and graduate in December of their senior year. Someone in the nursing office told us that this has raised the acceptance rate closer to 30%.
The nursing academic advisor told us (in writing) earlier this month that the average SAT score for Clemson nursing students is 1300. But that is NOT a minimum, it’s an average. So, 1250-1350 is a reasonable range to be competitive. 26-29 ACT equivalent.
They also told me that while they do heavily focus on stats, they have the same requirements for both in state and out of state students. Nursing schools like to see a demonstrated interest in nursing, so unlike some other majors, they likely do need to look more closely at your extras.
