Are you a legacy to any of these schools?

unfortunately no legacy at any of these schools

NYU - reach
Cornell - reach
Columbia - high reach
UMichigan - high match

You’re in the middle 50 for SAT at UM but your GPA is a bit soft. You might catch a break on grades coming from a competitive high school, but you’re just barely out of the top quartile and I’m willing to bet you have plenty of classmates with 3.8s and up.

On the bright side, you get a bit of an edge from being Hispanic, your ECs look solid, and it’s well worth applying to some of those reaches (Columbia is still a long shot though), especially if your SAT gets a bump in January. If you could go back in time I’d recommend applying ED to Cornell.

thanks, i appreciate it

Michigan is a reach if your OOS. Ethnicity helps with all the other schools but Michigan is anti-affirmative action. Don’t submit subject tests. To anyone.

Cornell is far-reach.

I’d say NYU is a high match. If you were applying to a STEM major at umich I’d say reach, but your interest areas are a bit easier to get into there so I’d put it at a high match/low reach. Those test scores make the ivies a long shot for you, but it never hurts to try. If your essays are impressive you probably have at least a chance at Cornell.
