Please keep in mind that I am applying early decision.

Pretty good chance. SAT II Math IIC is pretty low, EC’s aren’t very good, probably too late to do anything with that. I would say you have good chances, but only if you apply ED.

bump… big bump

You’re in if you do ED.

thanks for your responses

also, if it helps for my ec stuff, im a junior firefighter

hahahahhahaha junior firefighter. Sorry, that sounded funny. Anyway, you look great man. I think you’ll get into Stern. Even if the math IIC is 700. They dont want math GEEKS, just people who can handle difficult math so you’re ok. JUST MAKE SURE YOU ED IT!

Lol, our stats are almost identical. I got in ED this year, so you shouldn’t be too worried come december.

definitely do ED and write terrific essays. get lots of opinions on them. you are VERY competitive and very similar to ED students who were previously accepted. fantastic essays will put you over the top.

In agreement with the above posts. Do ED.

thanks so much for the replies

confidence is a hard thing to gain during junior year and all of your replies have helped.
i know its difficult to get in so im giving myself a 30 - 40 percent shot of getting accepted through early decision.

I have no idea what NiraliMag was talking about, your ECs look great. Your math scores are a little low, but I think that overall, you seem to be a well-rounded student. You’ve definitely got a chance.

woo
for another bump!

hmmm i’m not sure honestly. you EC’s are definately good, and you’re languages are a plus, but there are some things that stand out.

1) Math should probably be your strongest subject if you’re applying to Stern. You haven’t taken any math AP’s, and most of the AP’s you listed are fairly easy ones. (Not trying to be cynical, just honest)

2) Your SAT math score is a little low. Your reading and writing are both very high, but once again Stern is looking for mainly math. To place into Calculus I at Stern, one of the criteria is to have at least a 750 on SAT math, which is almost expected. Also, the SATII is highly curved. A 700 is a fairly strong math score on the normal SAT, but on the SATII it is like 50 percentile or something. Last year even a 790 was about 88 percentile.

I would definately apply early decison, though, to give you a leg up. I finally decided to apply ED and it was worth it! Good luck.

As others mentioned, Stern looks at your Math slightly more heavily and your SAT I and II Math scores are kind of low and you have no math AP classes.

While this isn’t a deal breaker since everything else is good, the math scores might hurt you.

I think you are definitely a highly competitive applicant. You have no major flaws, and remember, you only need one teacher recommendation and one counselor one, so 3 is really not needed. It will come down to your essays. If you write okay to stellar ones, you are in. Poor essays to less than okay ones will get you rejected. This applies to ED.
Also, why are you not considering getting FA? You have to be very wealthy to afford 53k+ a year for school with no help. You would for sure get some, and your parents would be greatly appreciative. That is, unless you come from an amazingly affluent background.

Awards:
National Poetry Award LPSNJ
NOVA National Business Scholarship
AP Scholar (hopefully)
Varian Fry Award
Honor Roll

MVP of the year - Soccer
Green and Gold Award (for volunteering)

3 college showcase tournament wins (soccer)

Class Rank:
Top 20% out of 489 students

Work Experience:
Summer Counselor at Villanova (3 weeks, $850)
Internship for multimedia conglomerate in India (2 weeks)
Internship for NYC financial corporation (3 weeks)

Summer Experiences:
Full geometry course at Delbarton Prep School
Genetics & Molecular Biology at Columbia University
Sponsor a Child in India and Stayed with a poor family in Kolkata (1 week)

Your chances are looking very good. I am also applying ED to Stern, but my GPA is a lot lower than yours. Overall I would say you are in.

Chance me?
