Chance me! (NYU Stern)

I wish to transfer to NYU Leonard N. Stern School of Business. However, I would like to know if I have a good chance to transfer since my high school performance was poor.

Current School: City University of New York (Senior College)

Entering as: Junior

College GPA: 4.0

College Recommendation: Professor, Ph.D. from Ivy League University (excellent writer), Top PE firm Associate (recently worked in BB IBD as an analyst, but is this a valid recommendation?), should I have two professors write me a recommendation?

High School GPA: (~2.0 GPA)

SAT/ACT Scores: 1900 (700 Math, 550 Reading, 650 Writing)

SAT II Scores: None

Significant ECs:

Intern at a company that focuses on holding award ceremonies, conference summits, and other programs that focus on the middle-market M&A practice and the professionals involved.

Executive Board position in my school’s finance club (student-run club that focuses on educating students about the finance and economics industries and the careers associated with those industries)

Member of a National Honor Society (honor society that focuses on community service and social events)

Honors Program (official school program that identifies me as an honors student; includes consulting with honors advisor, taking honors courses, volunteer work and attending cultural events)

Non-Profit Organization’s Fellowship Program (fellowship program designed for ambitious college students and helps them connect them to many opportunities; non-profit organization mainly sponsored by major banks and the program focuses on career/professional development)

School Ambassador (tour guide for my current school; speaks with prospective students and their parents while leading a tour of the campus that lasts an hour)

(No high school ECs)

Hooks:

During my junior and senior year of high school, I was able to secure a job at a mortgage company. As a learning loan officer, I assisted my clients in refinancing their current home mortgages to qualify them for a lower interest rate; ultimately, their monthly bills were lowered. Responsibilities included analyzing client's documents (credit scores, income documentation, house appraisals), consult with clients about their financing options, and sales origination. I worked at this company for almost a year and discovered my passion for finance there. One of the college application essays will focus on my transformation from bad high school student to stellar college student, using my work experience at the mortgage company as the turning point.

Do I have a good chance at being accepted into NYU Stern? What are your thoughts, opinions, criticisms? Should I try to transfer? Help me!

Just quickly skimmed through your stats. Normally, I am against answering threads like these because no one truly knows your chances. Although, you will occasionally see some posters comment saying: You have a 40%, without demonstrating how they arrived at such a number.

Stern is very competitive. No official numbers are available but their admission rate for transfers most likely hovers around 12-15% to potentially even lower. You seem to have the numbers, but more importantly in transfer admissions are the reasons for why you want to transfer. Sometimes this is even harder than achieving the grades and accolades, but the personal responses are what set applicants apart.

You have an excellent chance. The only flaw I see on your stats is the reading score on your SAT. However, it really won’t affect you since you are transferring as a junior.

I have a friend who was entering brandeis univ as a freshman. He got 3.75 in college and 2100 in sat. He transferred to NYU Stern as a sopho. I’d rather not comment on chances but give other ppl’s stats, if that helps.

what all classes have you take or will take…

These are the courses I have taken and will take:

Please note that all three of the Math courses in my transcript (Pre-Calculus, Applied Calculus, Integral Calculus) have covered all the topics in Calculus I. So will those three courses give me credit for one Calculus I course and fulfill that prerequisite?

you sure about those three math credits will combine to become one…did you talk to a stern transfer coordinator. just sounds bizarre…

Please share your opinions!
