Hey guys! I’m currently a junior at a public high school in CA
GPA: (9-11) 3.75 unweighted/ (10-11) 4.30 weighted ( I also switched high schools my sophomore year, and at the new school they weight honors courses whereas at my old school they didn’t)
SAT I: 2200 (800 math, 710 CR, 690 writing) [taking June SAT for a higher superscore]
Honors Classes: English 9H, Biology, Geometry, Physics, Spanish IV, Precalculus
AP Classes: Biology, World History, US History, Literature and Composition
Scores: 5 on AP world so far, expecting 4/5 on Lit and US History and 4 on Bio
Senior Year Classes: AP Environmental Science, AP English Language, AP US Government, AP Micro/Macro Econ, Regular Calculus, VS.net (computer programming), and Advanced Speech and Debate (might replace with AP Spanish)
English is my strongest suit and I’ve been heavily involved in Speech and Debate throughout my high school career. I’ve volunteered with our school’s middle school Speech and Debate program, instructed at the summer camp for S&D, held a leadership position for 2 years, and it’s my main EC. I took 3rd at a national invitational in my event last year, was a semifinalist at the same invitational this year, have attended the state tournament, etc. My only other real ECs would be my involvement as treasurer in a creative writing club on campus and treasurer of our school’s chapter of HOSA.
Public speaking and writing are the areas I feel I excel in while I’m not that great at math (which is why I was surprised at the low CR and writing scores and high math score) and though I don’t have a really specific major in mind I’m looking into Business Administration, Poli Sci, and English (not into engineering or med at all)
I’m mainly scared because while I had a 3.83 Freshman year and a 4.0 soph year unweighted, I piled on too much stuff for junior year. I thought I would be able to handle it but my GPA says otherwise lol. I messed up and got a C in honors precalc 1st semester and am probably ending with a C 2nd semester too. I’m aware this shows a downward trend (which is definitely not good) but I think I can pull of straight As or at least like a 3.83 uw for the first semester of senior year.
What are my chances for colleges like NYU for a program in their College of Arts and Sciences (maybe International relations), Berkeley, UMich, or Liberal Arts Colleges like Kenyon and Swarthmore? Which colleges have good programs that best fit my interests?
Thank you guys so much in advance!!!
Not sure what your financial status is but NYU is not a cheap date and also not very generous. Naviance is a great help in finding out where you stand. The one downside is that it doesn’t account for weighted, or more specifically, UC weighted gpas. Not all 3.75s were created equal.
