GPA: 3.3
Throughout high school I also took apush, whap, ap lang comp, and next year I’ll be taking ap calc ab, ap biology, ap physics 1, and ap lit comp. I also took several honors classes, so my course load was pretty much a living hell that I clearly couldn’t handle very well.
SAT: 2110 (700 CR + 690 M + 720 W)
(I have yet to do my SAT II’s but I’ll be doing them in Math Level 2 and Chemistry).
ECs: Three years of Robotics, Two years of FCCLA, volunteering at the library (will be over 150+ hours at the end of the summer), and volunteering at the local hospital (will be 54 hours at the end of the summer). Also played soccer outside of school.
Will I get into the College of Arts and Sciences for Economics or Biology? I feel like I’m definitely going to get in but I just want to be sure because this is one of my top choice schools. Also, if I do get in, would I be offered any scholarships (I know this is unlikely but I believe my SAT is above average for applicants to that school).
Thanks!
Just 12% of NYU freshmen last year had a GPA below 3.25, with another 21% in the 3.25-3.49 bucket. Taking a few APs by the end of your junior year is good, but it’s more or less par for the course among NYU applicants. Your SAT is above-average, but it doesn’t quite reach the school’s 75% mark of 2140.
I certainly don’t think the GPA is low enough to doom your application, but it probably cancels out the boost your SAT score would otherwise provide, making your chances as dicey as those of any applicant at a moderately selective school. If you’re building your application list around the assumption that you’ll definitely get into NYU, I’d suggest reconsidering that assumption.
NYU is famous for their stingy aid, and you don’t seem to be a particularly strong applicant for merit aid, so don’t count on getting much help (if any) from the college.
With that said, you definitely have a chance, so by all means apply.
Nearly positive you will get no merit aid, and I don’t think NYU is a guarantee for you either (by no means definite). I think if you apply ED you’ll have a pretty good chance, but like the above post, your SAT is not really that great (it’s good enough). You’re EC’s are kind of mediocre, and show little relation to economics or bio.
