In high school, I was always a capable and utterly creative student. Although, it was a rough time in my life and I couldn’t do as well as I wanted to due to personal conflicts. I got a 2.4 - 2.5 Cumulative GPA in high school. I’m a freshman in community college. I figured I’d come here to save some money and get my grades up. I just completed my first semester. I took English 101, composition, algebra, and a freshman seminar and got a 4.0 for the semester.
Steinhardt today only requires one letter of recommendation from a professor and one from a guidance counselor (my composition teacher already promised me a great letter of rec. after getting an A in both of her classes).
My dream school is NYU Steinhardt for media culture & communication. I love the major because it’s really broad and all jobs/internships for that field is in NYC and RARELY offered in CT. Plus if you go to NYU you’re open to so many opportunities, which is the main reason I want to attend.
I’m going to stay in CC for two years to make up for my high school performance. I’m in 4 clubs and I’m in the president of my own film theory club at my school and I’ll be joining the national honors society the end of the spring. I plan to apply for the Fall 2017 semester during the spring of 2017. My goal is to maintain a 3.5 or better in my school and to be really involved. NYU’s most competitive transfer applicants have at least 32 credits (which I’ll have after my third semester before applying). Not sure if I should stay a little longer and get more credits to make up for my HS performance or if that’s enough.
I know I should stay academically consistent (minus the fact that I’m early into my college career). I’m not even sure if NYU would consider me because I go to community College (although I go to a really good one) because most NYU external transfers often come from one of the CUNY/SUNY schools in NY (I live in Connecticut). But what are my chances of getting into NYU Steinhardt? What are some pointers/tips/advice that can increase my chances?
