SUMMER: Hopefully Carnegie Mellon Pre-College APEA

APPLYING TO:
Stanford (EA)
Caltech
MIT
Harvard
UC Berkeley
Carnegie Mellon
Brown
Cornell

Do I have a chance at any of these places? I can get an amazing rec from my AP English Lang teacher (she writes PAGES), and I can get good recs from my AP Chem, AP Bio, and Precalc Enriched teachers. My essays should be good.

If you want any other info just ask...

Oh and include, on the list, University of Chicago and Harvey Mudd College (in line for Merit Scholarship), and as for one I have a good chance for, University of Rochester (I already have over 15k/y scholarship there).

You don't need to retake the SAT or the ACT.

You have great chances at all of them.

u cant take the SAT in september, the earliest is October

?: Why so many SAT IIs and why do you feel it's necessary to retake the SAT? You did very well. Taking it again might just make you look really OCD to admins. Lol, just my opinion though.

Okay, so I'm slightly OCD. After these SAT IIs I won't take any more except Physics, French (for FL credits), and an English one if possible. If you know me, than you can see that I like to push myself. I always try to add on a bit more.

Besides, that CR score annoyed me, especially after getting 77 on it on my PSAT. Oh well. I already signed up for the ACT. I'll probably just take the SAT once more. You're right. I shouldn't go crazy over it.

And yeah, the earliest is October. I was looking at the registration deadlines!

Stanford EA - reach
MIT - reach
Caltech - reach
Harvard - reach
Berkeley (OOS) - match
Brown - high match
Cornell - match
Mellon - low match
Mudd - high match
Chicago - match

Add at least one safety (SUNY?) and a less selective good science school like Case.

I feel like you're a really strong candidate. Normally I would suggest that you volunteer a bit more or get some work experience, but since you're a smaths kind of guy, then maybe you don't need it...you could give yourself a boost, though, by getting an internship that is somewhat smaths-related. Maybe there's a laboratory where you could intern? A center that you could volunteer to tutor math at? An extra activity over the summer certainly couldn't hurt you.
Best of luck!

I agree, you're a great canidate. But please ignore atomicfusion, no one is a match for an Ivy. Especially not Brown, because Brown is basically impossible to predict.

I know I need volunteering. I'll probably tutor some more.
I'm really worried about those first 3 Sat IIs, not exactly spectacular, and my SAT scores could be better. But then again, I may just have OCD.

Any other opinions?

Did I say "match" for Brown? No, I said "high match." And yes, plenty of people can have Cornell as a "match," and that is an ivy league school. Also, don't tell people to ignore me. They can choose who to ignore and who to listen to. I'm allowed to present my opinion.

Take a deep breath.

I merely meant that Brown is arguably the most holistic Ivy, in that its admissions are much more based on personality and 'quirkiness' than on pure numbers, making admissions decisions hard to predict. For anyone. Therefore, I think it is irresponsible to call it a match, at all. It's a reach for anyone. Although the OP certainly has a great shot.

yay bumping
