I'm in an engineering tech-prep course at my high school and I've been taking it since sophomore year (currently a senior) . Every year we have it for an extra period, for example sophomore was one, junior two, and senior three periods out of my seven classes. I did pretty good sophomore year because we focused on mostly AutoCad that year and I ended up with a good grade. Now junior year we did electrical which was way more confusing and harder for me and I ended up failing that class(I don't want it to seem like an excuse I could have worked harder but I kind of just gave up or didn't take it that serious), so it brought my GPA down to a 2.0 because it counts as two F's on my transcript. Senior year I plan on doing a lot better I'm doing student gov, getting three letters of recommendation, volunteer work and a really strong essay! I'm taking the ACT in October and hopefully I do well. As well as a few sports but there not as important as other things. I plan to go into the civil engineering field, and even though I failed last year it kind of shows that since I stayed in I'm dedicated. Now my mother went to UC and she was in honors her whole life with a great GPA , and since I"m far from that I'm kind of discouraged from applying. Do you think I should still apply? If I did I would apply for early admission so I'd have a better chance of getting in.I need an honest opinion please!

Ive been emailing admissions and I've got alot of advice but im still worried. I need as much as possible. I just hope I can express to them that I'm VERY serious about college because if you dont do well there, chances are you wont do well in life.

Thanks in advance I know this is a lot!
