This isn't really an award or honor, but my school has a literary magazine that it publishes at the end of the school year. It gets 100s of entries but only publishes about 50. Everything I've submitted over the past 3 years has gotten in- about 7 pieces. Yay?

SORRY for the long post and my ramblings. I'm really depressed because my grades are subpar and ECs are practically nonexistent. I used to do a lot of activities, like Indian dancing and singing, but I stopped before high school (why? No idea..)

Chance me for:

WUSTL ED
Northwestern EA
UChicago EA
Rice ED
UBerkley
Carnegie Mellon
Emory
Wesleyan
Boston College
UNY

Yeah yeah I know they're like all reaches. Obviously, I'm not going to apply ED/EA to all of those colleges, I just want to see how good a chance I have if I do apply ED/EA. I'd like to apply to the one I have the biggest chance at!

Thank you!

You can’t apply Wash U ED and Rice ED. ED means that it’s binding, which means that if you get in, you HAVE to go there.

You should be able to get into all of them if you write stellar essays.

phuriku, I know. I’m just wondering whether I’d have a greater chance of getting in if I apply WashU ED or Rice ED. The colleges are independent from each other.

O0ooops! My weighted GPA is 4.6… But my unweighted is 3.74! Should I just give up Now? :frowning: pleaseeee reply!

northwestern does not have EA. only ED

lol that’s what i meant. chance me?

please. help. please. help. please.

You’re basically a stay-at-home kid judging by your lack of good ECs, but your GPA isn’t even that good and your SAT is inadequate for the schools on your list.

Barring a RIVETING essay and some sort of hook, I doubt you get in.

I think you appear to be a reasonably strong applicant. I would suggest not applying ED, only EA and regular decision. You don’t indicate that you need financial aid or scholarships, so if money is not an issue, I would suggest this route. EA and RD.

You can google “common data set” “name of school” 2009 … 2010 isn’t out yet … and find from the last class where you rank against this schools by GPA and test scores. Based on most of the research I’ve done I think you GPA and ACT scores are fine for admission to a number of the schools you are interested in.

You have some EC’s, work experience, volunteer activities … a nice variety. I think you need to take a deep breath and put you energy into writing your essays, completing the common ap, and making an activities profile.

If you look on the ACT website, you will see that your 33 puts you in a very high percentile.

Good luck.

On the whole, I would say that you have a fair chance at most of the schools. Your tests do leave something to be desired, but I think your academics look fine. Your ECs are really not that bad; mine are worse, and I’m still confident they won’t be the death of me (erm…my college applications). Go for it.

As for Nosike, ignore him. He thinks that as a URM, he will automatically be accepted into HYPSM despite a comparatively weak profile. The only people he doesn’t post negative comments for are those who are unusually/exceedingly strong, even for CC. Honestly, I doubt he knows what he’s doing.

You might also check which of the schools you are interested in superscore for admission. Wash U does. So if you take the highest section from your ACT tests - what does your superscore come out to? It might be a 34 this way, which puts you in the top 1% or so. I’d have to check the act website to be sure.

Mia, why shouldn’t I apply ED? Just wondering. WUSTL is my top choice school. If I got in, I think I would die of happiness. Also, what chance do I have at Carnegie Mellon?
I know it sounds superficial, but I just want to get in somewhere good so I at least feel like high school paid off.

Nosike, how can you tell that she is just a stay-at home kid. HOW. Tell me. just b/c she doesnt seem to have a lot of extracirrucular does not mean shes a stay-at-home kid. She has served over 300+ hours of community service and 70+hours in labs. And most likely more. Do you even know how much time other clubs, especially Beta, requires of their members? even if the clubs don’t have high requirements, she may have dedicated far more than needed to one of her activities b/c she has passion and dedication for it. college rather a student have one or two things theyre dedicated to than having a whole bunch of activities but no passion for just one or two clubs. And she has to balance other organizations and her AP/Honors classes. I doubt she’s a stay-at-home kid.

gssmiles. I think you have a good chance in many of the colleges you wrote. if you can write amazing essays it will definitely help. Good luck and don’t give. Dont listen to anyone who tries to put you down. Everyone is different. I’m also applying for colleges this year to similar schools, but i doubt my chances are good as yours. but I’m hoping for the best.

If Wash U is your dream, must have school - and your folks can pay if you get in, money is not a concern - then yes, I would say that applying Wash U ED is OK. Keep in mind they supersscore. So if you can take the ACT one more time - and move up to a 34, or 35 by bringing up the score of a section or two, then that would be a good idea as well.

I suggested not applying ED - as it didn’t seem that you had a target school from your list. If that is your target - than you can apply ED. You can still apply EA at other schools, but if accepted at Wash U you would need to withdraw those apps.

I have not done any research on Carnegie Melon - so can’t help you there.

One more thing - from my research and according to our college counselors - Wash U is one of those schools that counts “demonstrated interest.” If you can make a visit - do so.

But how good I have a chance do I have at WashU (assuming I’m applying ED)? I don’t want to waste my ED lol
Thank you so much MasterMia!

What is your intended major? That might help some people evaluate you.
