Chance me on Cornell

Hi I am a high school senior from a public high school in California(ranked in top #250 in us news high schoolrankings). I have about a 3.8 uw and a 4.2 w gpa. My ec's are 200+ hours volunteering at a hospital, 3 years in girl up club, 3 years in Red Cross Association club, and 2 years in Teach club at my school. I have a great recommendation letter from my counselor, math teacher, and english teacher. My sat is 2150 and act 29. What do you think my chances are of getting into Cornell?

I’m not very qualified to answer but I’ll try my best. I think your chances are very slim. Your act is less than the 25th percentile and your extracurriculars are weak comparatively. Although your volunteer and philanthropy is exemplary, you don’t stand out enough as an applicant to have a good shot. You might get lucky though! Have you considered any school in California. You have amazing schools locally that many on the east coast would love to go to. Best of luck.

Cornell: Reach

I hope that you have given some thought into your non-reaches…

It depends on what college you are trying to get into. Arts and Sciences maybe, Hum Ec or Ag for sure.

I’m planning on applying to the Human Ecology department

Ivies by their nature are unpredictable. They’re reaches for everyone, basically. If you have a compelling essay or if you have something unique about you, then we can say you have a sure shot. Try to work on writing an excellent essay.
