Chance me on these universities please??

Hi! I am now a high school senior living in Kentucky, looking to go out of state. I KNOW my stats aren’t exactly the best, but I really have had an upward trend and feel I am way more prepared to take college classes after I just finished my junior year. Since my sophomore year was about a 2.75 GPA it has REALLY taken my cumulative down. I feel this is gonna break me, plus the fact that I don’t do sports or many ECS.
I’m mostly looking at: University Of Washington, UIC/ UIUC, NC State,
possible major: biology, psychology, or music business
Stats:
GPA : 3.3 (UW) 4.0 (W)
Rank: 157 of 530, 70%
ACT: 24 E, 25 M, 30 R, 22 S (Composite was 25) this was my first time and I just took it in March 2016, so I plan on taking it another time in September, aiming for 30
SAT: Haven’t taken yet but took the PSAT last year and got about a 1175
AP Classes: AP Psychology (3), AP World History (2), APUSH (didn’t take exam), AP Lang (projected 4)
Senior year I’m planning on taking AP Statistics, AP Lit, possibly AP Bio?
ECS:

  • don’t play any sports, thinking of taking up track or archery my senior year
  • have at least 200+ hours of community service with my church youth group
  • have maintained a job at an family entertainment center for about a year now
  • science club, probably going to join psychology club, health club
  • planning on starting a homework help service for K-5 at my local library
  • mentor in 8th grade for 6th graders in my middle school
  • going to be a mentor for incoming freshman students my senior year, with this program we get recommendation letters
  • award in composition from 10th grade
  • volunteer at hospital as clerical support in breast cancer center for summer program(9)
  • Volunteer at hospital in NICU for summer program(10)
Growing up in Kentucky there aren’t many opportunities AT ALL. I was raised by my mother as my father has been in jail for most of my childhood so money is an issue.
    Bracket: $30K or less
  • need based scholarships are a must
    Ethnicity: African American
    Gender: Female
  • I am pretty good at writing essays, will find help at my high school writing center so not a problem
I think I might have a chance if they take the time to look past my stats. I’m not scared of a little constructive criticism so if you have any advice feel free to lay it on me.

also the chances on me getting into UPitt?

UIC- Good chance
UIUC- Bad chance
U of Washington- Bad chance
NC State- Bad chance

What was your system for choosing these schools?

I don’t really have much of a system I just want to get out of Kentucky. Safety was a factor, the weather, etc. should I have a system??

^ It might appear that your chances are bad based purely off of your stats however you have gone through SIGNIFICANT hardship which will mean a lot in terms of your gpa and test scores. With one of your parents being in jail for most of your childhood you can mention how this affected your life. You can say how you couldn’t focus primarily on grades and tests as so many other things were happening that you had to deal with. Also maintaining a job during school is extremely difficult and will take a toll on your grades, test scores so you will not be penalized as much as a student with equal stats as you have likely had a rougher time. But you may want to look at safety schools as to not put all your eggs in one basket. I wish you all the best!

@PetEngineer okay thank you :slight_smile:

If you can raise that ACT to a 30 and explain your circumstances, I’d say you have a terrific shot!

@tdeh2017 yes as mentioned by @ben69420 just make sure to mention it in your essays and personal statements
