3.500
UC GPA

Rank
School doesn't rank, but probably around top 40%; it is sorta competitive.

Testing:
SAT I
2290 (770 M/750R/770W)
SAT IIs
Math IIC - 760
US History - 760
English Literature -720
Physics - 700
Chemistry - 630
Biology E - ??
APs
AP European History - 5
AP United States - 4
AP Language - 5
AP Chemistry - 2 (self-study) (._.)
I'm an AP Scholar right now, but probably going for "with distinctinon" for sure this year.

I have taken and currently taking mostly honors and AP courses, pretty much on the higher part of the curriculum that my school offers (Public Magnet).

Academic Awards:
National Merit Semi-finalist, and a few local writing/essay awards. Nothing too special.

Extracirriculars:
Again, nothing too hot,
a few clubs for 2 years
tennis for 8 years
piano for 9 years (level 10 in CM)
XC for one year
Volunteering at a local recycling center (every Saturday, about 5 hours/week, 100 hours)
Volunteering in the Explorer Program (50 hours so far)

Work:
Tutoring elementary school children and middle school children (3-5 hours/week, 3/2007- present)

Schools that I'm appling to:
UCLA
UCSD
UCB
UCI
Carnegie Mellon
Brown (probably a dream)
USC

Intended Major: Psychology

Other Schools aka (schools my typical, helicopter, stubborn asian parents are making me apply to, but I don't want to, but I don't think I have a choice, because I can't win arguments against them.)
Northwestern
University of Chicago
Washington University in St. Louis
John Hopkins
Columbia
Cornell
UPenn

It looks like they took it straight off US news rankings :/

I understand my GPA is weak, and my ECs aren't particularly strong. Thanks for the input though!

Also, any suggestions on what would match me better would be appreciated!

anyone wanna help another worried soul?

Being an Asian male with a top 40% ranking is abysmal.

Brown: REJECT
Northwestern: Very Unlikely
University of Chicago: Very Unlikely
Washington University in St. Louis: Unlikely/ Very Unlikely
John Hopkins: REJECT
Columbia: REJECT
Cornell: REJECT
UPenn: REJECT

UCLA: reach
UCSD: slight reach - high match
UCB: reach
UCI: match
USC: high match

Your GPA is a bit below average for the top UCs, and your scores probably won't make up for that. You have average ECs/honors/awards, though it's the GPA that's holding you back. Make your essays really awesome, and you just might get in.

Thanks for the replies guys.

A quick question: I have a weak gpa, coupled with a relatively strong test scores.
Compared to people with high gpas, and lower test scores, how do I match up?
Which is better?

Also, could you guys chance me more on the above and on the following:

Occidental College
Pepperdine University
San Diego State

Thanks!

bump bump!

For UCs, admission is in favor of those with high GPAs and "lower" test scores, since GPA is more important. However, it's not so easy to compare applicants -- ECs, honors/awards, essays, and more are all factored in.

San Diego State: safety

bump!

I just need 3 or 4 of you experienced guys to chance me.

Many Thanks!

bumping it up.

night sky's great tonight...

bump bump bump bump!

i can show you the world....disney movies are great. (bump)

it obviously looks like you are smart, it's just your school is extremely competitive or you were lazy because your SAT's are up there and your gpa is down there. With some good essay knowing UCLA's average SAT is 2006 and average GPA is 4.17
UCB: reach
UCLA: slight reach
UCSD: match
UCI: safety
USC: match

bump!!!!!!!!!!!!
