Chance Me! One school.

Asian American Female

GPA: 90 (The counselors told us a 92=4.0 at our school because of its "academic rigor." I don't know what that means.)

Course (the ones that "matter"):
AP US
AP Spanish
AP Macro (5)
Honors Journalism
Honors Forensics
Spanish for Professions (It's an accelerated Spanish program that seeks to place students in jobs where knowledge of Spanish is mandatory. The curriculum is modeled after some of the work at grad school as it is taught by a professor that taught at a business school in Spain)
Will take:
AP Government
AP Literature
AP Spanish Literature
AP Environmental Science
AP Statistics

SAT Score:
Verbal - 760

Writing - 640

ECs (I'm only mentioning the ones that I feel are important to me):
Speech and Debate (200+ members), Secretary, Novice Director
Student Government
Tutoring Business
Intern at Grassroots Organization
Volunteer at Asian American Non Profit Organization
CTY
Spanish - 6 years
(I'm in the process of applying to the Telluride Program)

Recommendations:
I am on very good terms (for a lack of a better word we're "BFFLS") with my debate coach who is also teaches one of my classes. A lot of my teachers are very happy I'm choosing UChicago as my first choice and two have offered to write me a rec (AP US, Honors Journalism) without my request.

CHANCE: UChicago (EA)

In case anyone was wondering why I only "chanced" one, UChicago is only my reach/dream school.

Thankss

Of no relevance: I’m attracted to the “where fun comes to die” slogan of UofC.

Yeah, that slogan got me hot to trot too.

D:
badump

If you’re not a solid candidate for UofC, then I’m saddened.

I’ll wager that you’ll get in.

I think your chances are good.

“Math - 740/680” What exactly does this mean?

Writing/verbal has been the exact same the last two times I took it.

Noooooo why is this so hard

Didn’t Chicago already announce EA results? Or are you doing RD? Somewhere, I heard UChicago doesn’t focus on writing too much.

I’m a junior.

My mom thinks UChicago is a hippy school.

i know someone who has higher test scores than you and similar GPA/ECs. he got deferred from UChi

Me too auraeight… me too.

Stop asking for chance threads for UChicago. There’s no way to predict anything with that school. Honestly, they really don’t care about test scores (wayyyyy less emphasis than Ivies + Duke stanford etc); as long as you meet a 1300 ish M+V, you’re set. In addition, they don’t look at your writing section(very frustrating, for me at least). They really don’t look at either AP scores or SAT II’s, but it is important to take a challenging courseload. They do, however, put a HUGE emphasis on whether or not your essays show that U of C is a good fit for you. They want creative people more than anything, and they want people who are balanced enough to thrive in the Core curriculum. So please people… Stop wasting your time with U of C chance threads. They are worthless…

p.s. This year, there was a 42%ish increase in applications( pretty much bigger than any other big-name school), leading to a huge deferral crowd. I would expect their total EA application pool to continue to grow next year.

Teacher recommendations are rumored to carry a lot of weight with the admissions folks at the Univ. of Chicago.

lol you look good! honestly. are you passionate about stuff like debate? cuz that’ll be a great hook, if you give it justice in your app
