In my essays, I will mention that I was diagnosed with PCOS and uveitis at the beginning of my sophmore year - the reason my GPA sorta dropped, but I picked it back up my junior year. I had to take monthly injections in my eyes, weekly blood transfusions, weekly injections of methotrexate, and other medicines that had their side effects.

So please drop your opinions, they are greatly appreciated! If there are other schools that you think would be a match for me, please let me know!

=)

I am also applying to George Washinton University

You have a fairly good chance of being accepted. It would help if you could retake your SAT. Your score is definitely on the low side for Wash U. Be sure to apply for scholarships. These require separate applications which can be found on the Wash U application website. Make sure you apply to be an Ervin Scholar and a Rodgriguez Scholar. I think you might have a good shot at these, plus just applying for them demonstrates interest in Wash U - which is very important to the admissions committee. I would also suggest visiting and interviewing.

Your EC’s are very good, but your SAT is very, very low and your GPA isn’t too impressive.

WashU is a private school, so the fact that you’re OOS doesn’t matter at all. The fact that you’re an URM certainly helps you, but I’m not sure your academic credentials are good enough for WashU’s strict standards.

@boomie I heard that interest really matter to them, and I was sent a all-expense paid invitation to Discovery Weekend in September, which i will definitely be going to. Also, there are officers from their Black Council - or something like that - that are coming to my area that they also invited me to visit. so hopefully, this will show something to them.

@RaVNzCRoFT I hope to raise my SAT’s up by at least 200 points, unfortunately, there isn’t much i can do now about my gpa, but i still hope =)

Unfortunately, a 200-point boost will help but still won’t give you the kind of outstanding SAT score that is common at WashU. I wish you the best, but there’s no telling what will happen.

@RaVNzCRoFT - this is true, but i know at least it will get me in the 20 - 25th percentile for SAT, hopefully, and key word here is hopefully it would help me out a bit.

and does wustl put alot of weight on sat II’s?

The low GPA can possibly be mitigated by skillfully mentioning your PCOS in your essays, and perhaps a rec letter (counselor, or possibly a teacher you had who saw you struggle with the effects of said illness). I would just try and not make your entire essay about the PCOS because, to me, that might come off the wrong way. But really, what do I know? lol

Best of luck! :)

thank you! yeah, in the packet my counselor gave us for the reccomendations, that asked for illness, deaths, etc that they would like us to mention. i probably won’t lean on it on my own personal essays, unless i find neccessary, and if i do, maybe 2 - 3 sentences
