Chance Me? OOS and URM. Will Chance Back!

For UMDCP, Asians have not been seen as URM for yrs. Bullet attended UMDCP in the late 80’s and even then, it was apparent that they were not URM.

I believe, that UMDCP has started a program in 10 for admissions and scholarships regarding specific counties within MD for specific programs. This would be something I would look into regardless of your financial ability. Never hurts to get merit when possible.

I think you are IN, I am just saying, that I can’t see honors at all, unless that SAT score comes up. Even if you look at the median for scholars SAT you still fall on the cusp. Just take the SAT again.

@bulletandpima I also stated that I volunteered in other states, but I see how you would assume I’m from VA even though I said MD. I will be taking the SATs again when school starts up again, which I also said. Some schools - both in state and out of state - invited me in my junior year to come down, all expense paid for an engineering program for females, only one was specifically for black females. I don’t know if I want to go into engineering, I might apply undecided in arts & sciences. The gpa’s are on a 4.0 and 5.0 scale. I really don’t know how you calculated, but my freshman year I got all A’s, one B. Sophmore year- 2 B’s, 1 C, and the rest A’s and my junior year, same a’s freshman year. A 3.5 is considered an A in my school system, even though a low one. Class ranks will be given to us the first month of school, so idk yet.

And to everyone else who is reading this, if it helps any, I skipped 1st grade, then after 6th grade was sent to a boarding school in Nigeria and placed in 8th grade, did 8th and 9th grade, came back, and was forced to do 9th grade again bc they didn’t want a 13 year old in 10th grade. In Nigeria, I wouldve take algebra 1 had I been there in 6th grade, so till this day I haven’t taken Algebra 1 neither here nor there - just pointing this out not blaming it.

Also Igbo, a Nigerian language, was my first language. Not English.

Skipping first grade means nothing. I skipped second. Does that help? Not really.

Now, skipping actual classes (e.g math classes, science classes [those classes on a ladder]) does help.
My freshman year I took AP Calc BC. Even so, I still don’t know if that will help too much.

I skipped two classes actually 1st and 7th, nd yeah the actual skipping doesn’t mean a thing, but my guidance councilor and everyone else I have told my story to concerning college said that the boarding school does make me unique a little bit - note difference btw unique and advantage

Honestly, not a single CC’er cares if you’re unique or not. This is a chance thread, and we’re here to chance you.

How old are you then?
I never met someone starting younger than seventeen (18 before the end of first semester) even in the honors program.
The boarding school thing is unique, but I have no idea what part that would play in admissions if any.

Btw - what’s up with this?
http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/943734-countdown-june-2010-sat-scores-results-thread-post1065113767.html#post1065113767

ugh. thanks for pointing that out for me. my brother is a rising junior, and is too lazy to create his own account. best believe that he rubbed that score in face AT LEAST 3 times a day for a week after he got it. don’t be surprised that after i leave for college that you’ll see a new post to 'Chance Me" lol.

I would say he’s got a good chance into HYPSM, so long as his gpa isn’t abysmal.

um, ok…? thanks?

Oh, come on, lighten up. I was just kidding -.-

i know he has a chance, but i mean you’re preaching to the choir here lol

@ginab,

“I never met someone starting younger than seventeen (18 before the end of first semester) even in the honors program.”

I turned 16 four months ago. We must do lunch sometime … :)

@EuroAzn correct me if I’m wrong, but setting yourself apart from others, or bringing something ‘different’ to the school, or however you want to put it, does make one look good, doesn’t it? And btw, thanks for creeping all the posts associated with myaccount.

Plumazul, well since you haven’t started yet…I’m not wrong. :D

Word of advice for you: Campus police can still call your parents if you’re too drunk. (They don’t care if you’re over eighteen. They just confiscate your alcohol) They’ve called seventeen year old’s parents while they were still drunk so their parents could take them home for the night. So keep away from campus police if you plan to do anything or don’t do anything to draw attention to yourself while intoxicated.

Whoa - I remember you yourself saying:

hmm…
…You really are full of yourself, aren’t you?
This is not supposed to be a compliment thread. Quite frankly, there’s nothing to compliment you about. Get over it.

@ginab591 lololol who do they call when you’re over 21?

@EuroAzn are you done, or do you want to continue to be a CC gangsta? Because you are free to continue being an a s s wipe. If one person told me that it would help me, then I probably wouldn’t have mentioned it. But the fact that dozens of people have, including college officials and faculty - including those at Yale and Harvard - does mean something.
Honestly I don’t know why we’re still on thus subject. You’ve given me your 2 cents, and thank you for that. You can go look for another thread to fulfil your Internet gangsta needs.

I’m not being a “CC gangsta”, whatever that means (maybe you mean ■■■■■?)
I’m just saying you are sounding very immature - you’re essentially chancing yourself, and then trying to influence/questioning the chances of others. Don’t ever do that in a chance thread!

PS: Why the hell are you always capitalizing the A in Euroazn?

In my @3 yrs here, I have never seen this animosity…take it private now between the two of you.

Both of you are being immature.

Sorry, but aku, the gangsta and a s s wipe comment hurt you from a credibility standpoint. I did not read any post from Euro on this thread that would cause such venom to call them a gangsta or an a s s wipe. He/SHe openly admitted to saying it was a joke at one point, but you continued to attack because they ruffled your feathers.

Now, let’s get back on topic.

akujieze, please respond to why you are asking for a chance when you said:

As great as UMDCP is, it is not UVA, UNCCH or UC Berkely from an academic standpoint. If you are seeing Yale and Harvard as a REACH, UMDCP would be your safety, and UVA or UNCCH would be the match.

You asked to be chanced…to me that means you are unsure if you match. Your Original post shows that fear, because your SAT is 1810…sorry, but as a parent who had a child recruited by UPenn, Stanford, Princeton, Columbia, Cornell, Duke, UNCCH and Notre Dame I am not biting off on the Yale and Harvard comment when you did not break 2000 on the SAT.

You wanted a chance answer, and people have given it, As an IS you should be IN. I will say if you were OOS from NJ or NY, the answer would have been MAYBE, but probably NO, based solely on your SAT scores. Sorry, but that is the truth, your SAT scores will get you in as an IS, but it will not get you into Scholars, Gemstone or Honors IMHO. OOS students have the same wgpa AND score over the 2000 marker.

Again, both of you need to step up to the table and knock off the name calling.

Not only that, but when you accept housing you sign a paper that says you will not imbibe alcohol under the age of 21. Police is one thing, but UMDCP can also revoke your right to live on campus. Try telling your folks OBTW I need to find an apt because UMDCP won’t allow me to live on campus.
