Chance me! OOS

I am a high school senior in Florida hoping to get into UNC-Chapel Hill EA.
Here are some of my stats:
ACT:30
SAT:1860
GPA: 5.4
Rank: top 10%
(I feel like some of my scores are weak for OOS, but hopefully my GPA will compensate!)

I also have:
100+ service hours
Advertising Editor of the yearbook for 2 years (3 on staff)
11 years of piano
Officer in my Service club
NHS
Beta
Officer of Legacy (like FCA)

Please let me know what you think!

Does your school let you take AP classes as a freshman or offer every single one available? I don’t really understand your GPA unless you somehow took like 12 AP classes and got all A’s. I don’t mean to offend, but I’ve never seen anybody whose schedule would allow for that. SAT is definitely low, and ECs aren’t spectacular. You have a shot, but I wouldn’t really count on it.

I don’t see what is so strange about a 5.4 GPA… I have pretty much taken only AP courses since junior year and I get straight A’s.
PS- You didn’t offend me :)

If your GPA is on a 5 point scale, a 5.4 would make sense and would likely be competitive with other applicants. The average last year was 4.5 on a 4 point scale. The middle 50 percent (25th to 75th percentile) for SAT scores last year was 1810-2080 and was 28-32 for ACT scores. The admissions department (I believe but am not completely sure) will take the higher of your 2 scores, so your ACT score will be used. It is right in the middle of the ACT score range, so you’re in decent shape there. Your ECs will probably be competitive, but nothing really stands out there.

By these numbers, you look to be a middle-of-the-pack to above average applicant. However, the numbers I use include both in-state and out-of-state students, so they’re probably a bit low for your applicant pool. You’ll be placed into the very competitive out-of-state pool. For OOS applicants, the acceptance rate last year was 18% compared to 52% for IS applicants. Based on the information you provide, I would say that your admissions result will probably depend on the quality of your recommendations and essays. If they were very good, I would say say that you have a decent chance of getting accepted. If they were just okay or were decent, I wish you the best of luck.

Thanks for all of the helpful information!

I got in! Boom!
