Chance me? or admission advice? or probably both :)

So I was planning on making a chance me thread but I don't have any SAT scores or AP scores yet. I also live abroad but am a US citizen. I gave my SAT this month and hopeful SAT subject tests(Bio, Chem, Maths 2) next month. I am currently a senior, and have given O'Level and AS'level, and will give A2 this May, all under the edexcel exam body.
O'Level:8A's
AS:4A's
A2:N/A
I didn't know about the whole exam procedures since I live in a third world country right now, but found out about them just three months ago. So, I quickly registered for SAT and SAT subjects, hoping to send them in on time. I have some, I think, uncommon Eca's. Also, I think I am an URM. I won't be giving APs and I don't have time for any more Sat subjects either.
List of ECA's are:

Tutoring at home, school, and needy students (voluntarily of course)

Office work for the school

Editor in chief of the school's year book(the two years that I was in that highschool, but then I changed to another one that doesn't have yearbooks for 11th and 12th grade)

Designing packaging for a company's product(I'm quite fluid at photoshop)

Participated in Science Fair

Participated in Quiz Competition

Designed Posters against Eve Teasing to create awareness(a comon prob. for pak, ind,bd)

Fundraising for clothes, toys, etc. for needy children

Donating blood in a blood bank(does this count??)

Raising money for people who need medication but can't afford it

Computer troubleshooting

Administrative work: volunteer in small clinic(ophthalmologist)

Going to the orphanage and old age shelters to help out

Create a website for eve-teasing(not yet but soon)

Teach SAT to students and tell them about American colleges(guess it counts since I am doing it in a third world country)

Badminton interschool champion

Participated in soccer tournament

Participated in basketball tournament

Chess tournament winner(interschool)

I may have some more but these seemed the best. Also, there are no Alpha theta mu organizations etc. so am I disadvantaged? And I changed schools 8 times so does that come up anywhere?

Oh and grades in school are:
GPA:4.0(/4)
Class rank: 1 (since 1st grade, if that matters)
And I had a rigorous course routine.

Based on these facts alone, what are my ivy chances? Sophie Davis chances( I have residency in NY)? NYU chances? hoping for a scholarship too if that matters

Thanks everyone :)

umm, for some reason I cannot edit my post.
So, could I ask some advice for some safety and reaches? Preferably in new york, NJ, maryland and Pennsylvania.

b.u.m.p.
am i asking this incorrectly? why the views without answers?

To qualify for Sophie Davis, you must be a resident of New York, and a citizen, or a permanent resident of United States. Okay so you are, good.

If you want to read more about Sophie Davis:

By the way, you made this post at midnight, how do you expect people to answer your questions? Be patient…

I will instead wait for the SAT results. It’s easier to judge that. I suppose people are not too familiar with the abroad examinations.

By all means, as in your case, contact the admission office of your interest.

Sorry, lol, the time zones gets me confused some times
So, are my EC’s any good? And will no AP’s affect me?

try to get more awards not participation

you have tons of ECs, and you are at the top of your class. DOn’t worry, that’s good enough for NYU

@qyakerlove
I would love to play sports seriously, but, my parents never used to let me out of the house so i couldn’t go to practice, and now that I tell them that I need this for college, they tell me to get involved NOW, in my senior year :frowning:
@hahvad
how about ivies? NYU isn’t really somewhere I want to go … >.<
Also add these universities to chance me with:
1-Johns Hopkins
2- Penn State
3- Amherst
4- Stonybrook of CUNY

Stonybrook is SUNY, Not CUNY.

oops, if the admissions officers saw me now…

GPA counts 2/3 in Penn State’s admissions decisions. You should be in good shape with a 4.0 unless you have serious problems with the SAT.

OK, thanks a lot. Well I heard from a friend the other day that penn state is good for college parties, but I don’t really like that kind of excess college fun(if it includes drunks and stuff). Is that bona fide?

sorry for double post, but there is no edit button???

“I changed schools 8 times so does that come up anywhere?” from post 1
As I mentioned before, does this come anywhere in my application?
Also, is it better for me to post my SAt scores when they come out here or on a different thread?

*. Well I heard from a friend the other day that penn state is good for college parties, but I don’t really like that kind of excess college fun(if it includes drunks and stuff). Is that bona fide? *

Is what bona fide? Are you asking if that’s true??

Virtually every college campus is going to have some excess partying going on. However, that doesn’t have to have anything to do with you. You choose your friends and your activities. Not everyone parties at schools that have parties.

Typically the only schools that don’t have partying going on are the highly Christian ones.

what are my ivy chances? Sophie Davis chances( I have residency in NY)? NYU chances? hoping for a scholarship too if that matters

NYU is a private so residency doesn’t matter.

Are you sure you have residency in NY? Do your parents still pay NY state income taxes?

I think I am an URM.

What are you? Blacks, Hispanics, American Indians, and maybe a few others are URMs.

hoping for a scholarship too if that matters

Scholarships are based mostly on high SAT and/or ACT scores with high GPAs that go along as well. So, until you have test scores, it’s hard to tell if you’d get merit scholarships.

How much will your parents pay each year for college?

“Are you sure you have residency in NY? Do your parents still pay NY state income taxes?”
Yeah, my dad works in NY, and I live with my mom outside.

“What are you? Blacks, Hispanics, American Indians, and maybe a few others are URMs.”
I am from bangladesh, is that a minority?

"Scholarships are based mostly on high SAT and/or ACT scores with high GPAs that go along as well. So, until you have test scores, it’s hard to tell if you’d get merit scholarships.

How much will your parents pay each year for college?"
I think that my parents will pay max a couple of thousand dollars.

Does your dad have a visa or a green card?

Is being an American Citizen from Bangladesh considered a URM? I’m not sure.

Have you don’t any practice tests? How did you do on them?

Have you taken the SAT yet?

Since your parents can only pay a few thousand dollars, don’t apply to NYU or those OOS publics. They won’t give you the aid that you need.

You need to find out what your EFC will be…

Quick EFC
[FinAid | Calculators | QuickEFC](<a href=“Your Guide for College Financial Aid - Finaid”>Quick EFC - Finaid)

I want to thank you for your help
Back on topic…

“Does your dad have a visa or a green card?”
We’re all citizens, so we have passports.

"Is being an American Citizen from Bangladesh considered a URM? I’m not sure. "
Any way to find out???

“Have you taken the SAT yet?”
Just got my score, 2170  (i think thats good)

“Since your parents can only pay a few thousand dollars, don’t apply to NYU or those OOS publics. They won’t give you the aid that you need.” Wow, i didn’t know that, thanks a lot for that info.

My dad keeps telling me he doesn’t want me to know the efc, but i’ll try to get around to him eventually :(

bump…bump

so should I make another thread…? i feel kind of hated…
