The schools I'm looking at:
Johns Hopkins (#1 choice, will ED here)
Washington Univ. St. Louis
Univ. of Pennsylvania
Northwestern Univ
UC Berkeley
Univ. of Southern California
Univ. of Chicago
Duke
Columbia
Cornell
Purdue (Safety school)
Stanford
Emory
Yale
Brown University

Major: Chemistry/Premed

Thanks in advance for reading this long thread and giving out your opinion on my chances of getting in and getting any financial aid based on merit

Washington Univ, USC, Duke, you'll prolly gonna get in.
I don't know about Berkeley though, its priority is in-state students, and you're gonna have some tough competitions. Chicago and Cornell, I hear that they're easier to get in than other HYM type of schools, but you have a very nice stats, enjoy your rest of the summer

According to the average stats-

It seems to me that you're a match at Johns Hopkins, especially with ED.

The UCs might be a little tougher, especially if you're out of state.

Columbia, Cornell seem to be matches.

You've got good stats and interesting ECs, I wouldn't be worried about anything.

hi
I agree w/i_fate...u certainly have better stats than i have lol...iduno, the fact that you worked at walmart and are Chinese is pretty unique, ive never heard of that.... uhm, what school do you go to in indiana? I also go to school in IN....

stanfordkid you have new PM

LOL...the Walmart job was only for a month or so...i dont even think im gonna put it in my app :D My parents wanted me to get a taste of blue collar life or w/e...but in the end it just took too much time out of my other activities, like research or volunteering

damn, haha, unfortunately, i've never done formal research....

Well, the research I'm doing isn't really the lab work you might be thinking of...our group is trying to learn linear algebra from a prof in an attempt to try to model enzyme kinetics through math lol :D

lmao, better than doing "independent" research...

Your SAT is mega sexy compared to mine.

Johns Hopkins (#1 choice, will ED here) - High Match ED + the slightest of reaches RD
Washington Univ. St. Louis - Match
Univ. of Pennsylvania - Reach (everybody)
Northwestern Univ - High Match
UC Berkeley - Very high match (just because you are OOS)
Univ. of Southern California - Low match
Univ. of Chicago - Slight reach
Duke - High match
Columbia - Slight reach
Cornell - High match
Purdue (Safety school) - you shouldn't be concerned about ending up here :)
Stanford - Reach (everybody)
Emory - don't know enough about
Yale - Medium/high reach (Asian male)
Brown University - low reach

...I know you've heard it 1000000 times, but try to organize your ec's and make your essays as "un-asian" as possible

Actually, I haven't heard that many times at all pdef :D

But yeah, I'll try my best to write some nice essays

when I say organize your ec's, I mean like grouping things together so that the math club and things like that fall into a group where it becomes obvious that you are a typical asian...i'd also avoid applying as a chem major and go undeclared because you seem like a solid all-around individual

u r a beast!!! i'd say based on many of my friends' stats that u could get into UCB no prob

pdef...advice taken...I will definitely try to organize my ECs well

And I'll look into applying undeclared, even though I'm about 95% sure I want to do pre-med (and chemistry or biology if the school doesn't have a specific pre-med program)

i think u have a good chance at all of your schools except probably for Yale. I say definetly in at John Hopkins

Bump Bump Bump...

Anyone else have an honest opinion for me?

How are my chances at getting some aid at those schools? My family probably could handle the cost (maybe with some student loans and the such...we aren't millionaires :D), but it sure would be nice to get some financial aid.

Pretty decent GPA and rank along with solid SATI scores will make you competitive to say in the least. Those are some pretty sweet subject test scores, too... having two 800's will likely set you out a bit. Also, founding Senior Connects sounds pretty important and it looks like you've got quite the stash of community service time piled up. Overall, I'd say that you've got a good chance (50%+) at getting accepted ED to JHU. As far as your other schools go...

Washington Univ. St. Louis: Maybe
Univ. of Pennsylvania: Maybe
Northwestern Univ: Maybe
UC Berkeley... don't know much about the UC system so not sure...
Univ. of Southern California: Likely
Univ. of Chicago: Likely
Duke: Maybe
Columbia: Maybe
Cornell: Maybe
Purdue (Safety school): (Accepted)
Stanford: Rejected
Emory: Likely
Yale: Rejected
Brown University: Maybe

hmmm thanks for the replies...any1 else want to take a shot?

996GT2, how many people from your school get into NW and Washu with stats "similar" to yours? I figure you'd know quite a few people since your school is rather large.

^^^^^(from post 11)...i meant grouping your ec's to prevent them from being too typical asian

Can some define a reach/match/safety for me? Quick overview.
