<p>Awards: First place in two art contests. Second in one regional contest.*Received special recognition medal/torch of excellence for English. (only one awarded in my grade). Nat'l Merit.</p>
<p>ECs: Speech & Debate, Independent Film, Art Club, Vietnamese Club, Pokemon Club.
NHS, and all of those other boring "schooly" clubs (i.e. Make-A-Wish, Academic Decathlon).</p>
<p>Volunteer/work: Worked at a soup kitchen for three years, every Sunday (my boss there says she'll write me a rec letter) and about 300 hours.
Part-time job at Color-Me-Mine this summer.</p>
<p>Summer Activities: Volunteered at various orphanages in Vietnam for a month, taught them a little English, fed them food, wiped up their barf, etc. (I plan on writing my essay about my little culture-shock there).
Took Philosophy and Calculus (i already did calculus at school, but it was not AP, i still wanted college credit, so i took it here) at the local community college.</p>
<p>And I'm pretty close to all of my teachers, especially my English teacher, so I hope they will write me good letters of recs. I'm not close to my counselor though.
I a pretty good writer, as my teachers have told me.
Other: I designed the logo for the company Aegis, an image protection agency.
I am in the progress of getting a book published.
I've also gotten my artwork published in Token Magazine.
I won second place in National Scholars Inc. for art. (regional)
I've played the piano for about twelve years.</p>
