chance me!! penn state, pitt, pace

I have applied to Penn State and University of Pittsburgh, and will probably apply to Bloomsburg, Pace (Manhattan), and West Chester.

I live in Pennsylvania

GPA is an 87%W, 86%UW (my school doesn't convert to 4.0)

SAT - 1st time - 720 Math, 610 Reading, 600 Writing
2nd time - 670 Math, 670 Reading, 600 Writing
Best Combined - 1390/1600 1990/2400

Honors Courses - Algebra II as a freshman and Pre-Calc/Trig as a Soph, German IV as a Senior

My GPA was a 90, but I failed Calculus my Junior Year (all other grades were better than normal for me that year)

Activities:
Key Club
German Club
Bowling Team (yes, bowling)
work about 20hrs a week since the beginning of tenth grade
I am in a band
I play baseball and basketball (rec. league)
I went on a week long Habitat for Humanity trip with my church the past four summers

In my personal statement to PSU, I mentioned that because both of my parents are retired, I had to have a job to have spending money and gas money.

I was also placed in the accelerated math program when i was in middle school, so up until the point that I failed Calculus I was a year ahead of everyone else in my class in math

Also, I said I would do the summer session at penn state on the application

I really want to go to Penn State Main Campus. I have seen kids from my school get turned away who have a 92 average an 1200 sat score, so I'm nervous. My Sat is high for the middle 50%, but since I'm not sure what my gpa converted would be exactly, I don't know where in the middle 50% I lie. I'm guessing at the bottom.

Please Chance me!!!!

I think you are dead on with how you’re thinking. I think you definitely could get in, but it’s more 50/50. The SAT is good, but the grades hurt you. If you have already applied and said summer session I would say that you’re in. It really just comes down to the amount of applicants they get. It just keeps going up and up. You may want to call the admissions office, just to follow up and make sure they got all of your information correct(like being marked for summer session). I called back when I applied and I think it helped show them I was really interested. I got in and loved it. I think that you are definitely in everywhere else. Anyway, hope you get into ps up because it is an amazing school and you will have a great time. Best of luck.

does failing one class really hurt me??

I am wondering whether Penn State looks at the Writing portion of the SAT or are they just looking at M/CR?

bump…

I am not sure if they look at the Writing, but we are PA residents as well. I made all of my kids apply to Penn State-Happy Valley. Two things: 1. get your application in early and 2. I saw a poster in the HS GC office last fall. The higher your grades are, the lower your SAT/ACT can be and visa versa.
