Hi, I’m an Asian international school student who currently lives in South Korea but have received an American private school education. I speak English very fluently and have a TOEFL score of 115(from around a year and a half ago). At school, I have a GPA that ranges from 3.65~3.9 in an upward pattern. I’m a rising sophomore at my school(which is a pretty competitive school) and have decided to apply for the Sophomore class next year because that’s my actual age(I entered school a year early) and thought it would be better to adjust and participate well if I had one more year to do so. For ECCs I’ve done MUN, NAHS, GIN, and a rowing crew club. I’ve also participated in a government-led art prodigy development program and I’m doing 1 community service by tutoring disabled children in art at a school. Although I’m not really into sports, I did a year of cross country and I was part of last year’s musical. Right now, I’m studying for the (old) SATs, and have a practice score of 2040 with a week of practice(perfect writing, improving CR, improving Math… unlike what the stereotypes claim, not all Asians are good at math…) After more practice, I will take the SAT(predicted score ranges from 2300 to 2400) and the SSAT. For electives next year, I will take AP Biology, 3rd year Art, and 3rd year Spanish(so advanced 1 year), but just regular Algebra 2, which my parents say is going to bring my chances down a lot. Do you think I have a chance? What things should I do this following school year(1 sem before application) to increase my chances? Any tips for essays and interviews(I’ll probably do mine over Skype because I have school during that time, but I heard that’s not good)? Thanks in advance!
I also did other clubs such as songwriting club, school magazine, and pottery club but I’ve only done them for a year(the ones above for more than a year). I’ve also done band(auditioned tuba) all throughout middle school but the scheduling at my school didn’t allow me to take both art and band so I had to choose art. For the next school year, would it be more beneficial for me to go with the subjects I’ve done for years or add different ones? Thanks!
