I'm an 8th grade student who is hoping to be accepted into Philips Exeter Academy and Phillips Andover. To start with;
I have a 4.0 GPA and am in the highest level of my grade(not sure of how important this is)
I'm taking Pre-calculus this year so math is a strong point for me
I am apart of the competition math team which is something i love and competition math takes up most of my day
i was top 10 in my school as a 7th grader and recently passed a national contest amc 8
I am hoping to qualify for the USAJMO ( a prestigious national olympiad)
I take part in debate program which i also really like and have won a few tournaments in
I was co-founder of Biology olympiad at my school me and my friend thought it would be fun
I am a part of a church that does quite a bit of community service and im pretty big into giving to the community
I study a lot on my own and the passions that i listed are my main focuses as i really enjoy them so im not able to participate in many extracurricular activities.
What do you think my chances are?

You seem like a strong candidate! Keep it up! (I am also applying to Andover/Exeter for the tenth grade) :D

alot of students appling to phillips Exeter Academy take pre-calc or calc. top 10 in ur school at what?. Amc8 is a really trivial contest. There is no “passing it”. Have you made aime?

no i didnt do as well on the amc 10 last year as i wanted. i got a 114 so i was 1 question away from passing (dumb mistake on number 9 i think it was). But ive improved a lot and im pretty sure ill make JMO this year. I was top 10 at mathcounts and top 4 in mathleague

There are not a lot of people at your age who do that well at the AMC 10, congratulations :)

You seem like a good candidate. Have you taken the SSATs yet?

I am taking them this weekend actually and am really nervous about them! Vocab kills!

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do well.

Thanks!! I hope i do pretty well too ;)

Are there any weak points in my application, are there any pitfalls i should try to patch?

hmm, I wouldn’t be that worried. See, I’m also applying to those top schools. your extracurriculars and awards will serve you well. If you get greater than a 90% (even though they say you need more than 85%) SSAT, and have a good interview, you should be fine. However, if you’re someone like me who needs full financial aid, then you should aim for a higher SSAT. My interview was great and my SSAT is 95%, and my grades are also all A’s, like yours. Well, good luck, because I’m sure we all need it :)

Toed26 are you the sister of awesometoad?

Same. Also Applying to Top Schools. I think also being a minority student such as I actually have better chance (that is what admission officers told me…)
