Anyways, what are my chances for Columbia ED? (Percentage wise, or anyway you want to express) Thanks for the helpful info, please be realistic, even harsh if necessary.

edit: please give any suggestions for anyway of improving my chances, or give a school I have a good shot at for ED TY AGAIN

It will be somewhat difficult, but you’re a fairly competitive applicant and you never know. I would focus on:

 1. Deciding if Columbia is actually where you want to go:

If you aren’t totally set on Columbia, why would you apply ED? What do you like most about Columbia? – the internationalism, New York, or the atmosphere? Have you visited? If you really like Columbia, you may want to check out NYU, and maybe some other top-tier schools (I can’t really narrow it down without knowing what you’re looking for)

Essays

Piano supplement/something showcasing your musical ability if it’s good enough

Thanks for the reply,
I like Columbia because it’s fairly close to where I live ( I live in NYC) . Perhaps I can commute there in my junior and senior years. I’ve visited the campuses a few times. NYU is ok too, but you know it’s definitely not on the same tier. I am going to pursue a career in medicine and NYU is ok too, but not liking the campus as much. You know coming from a traditional asian family, my father’s convinced I can get into an Ivy League or the likes.

I like the idea of a supplement, although would I have to compose the piano music or can I just play Chopin’s Black Key Etude ? I play like this (almost): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QVDPVpM94Y

I think either would work, but an original composition that’s really well-done would probably be more impressive. I think Columbia has some program with Julliard, but then again, that’s probably insanely selective…

There doesn’t seem to be any activity or subject where you truly excel, and that is your main problem. Mr./Ms. Wellroundedness doesn’t play particularly well for Columbia ED these days. You need something that sets you apart from the “Mongol horde”.

By the way, what high school do you attend? If its one of the big 4 pipeline schools to Columbia (Hunter, Stuy, Bronx Sci or Brooklyn Tech), then look at kids from your HS and ask yourself what they had on their resumes/portfolio that set them apart.

With the above ^ I have to point out that the OP isn’t really well-rounded. His history (from what I can see from the World History and US History APs) seems to be far weaker than his strong points of science and math (the 800 SATs and clubs).

Maybe highlight your interest/proficiency in math and science over history? Your clubs and abundance of science SATs support that.

^Yes, but the Asian doing science stereotype works against applicants.

you could try to volunteer like CRAZY for the next 2-4 months to bring that up to 200 hrs.
you could also try to rely on the your oct ACT score~
& i think you have a good chance.
