Anyways, what are my chances for Columbia ED? (Percentage wise, or anyway you want to express) Thanks for the helpful info, please be realistic, even harsh if necessary. Also I live in New York City, so does that mean I get lower chances automatically because I'm from the country's largest urban area?

edit: please give any suggestions for anyway of improving my chances, or give a school I have a good shot at for ED :) TY AGAIN

are you asian male or asian female (female would be better chances for you)?

what type of asian (tough luck if you’re japanese, south korean, or chinese)?

your sat-combined is lower the second time, but did the superscore change at all?

i don’t think you really need to take the ACT, your sat is pretty good and your sat subject tests are excellent.

scioly treasurer is good, make it seem special and important. everything else with ‘member’ isn’t too flattering.

100+ service hours are good. did you serve to serve, or, what i mean to ask is: how important and special is it to you? you can do more by volunteering more and/or by making a recording for your piano

rank. how many people are in your class? 10% is alright i guess

and ED would be a good choice, it’d show commitment and as long as you don’t need financial aid, you should do it. but otherwise, what’s up with your last comment? i feel as though you’re jsut using ED because it’ll give you better chances of getting in, not because you actually want to go there. if i can sense it, then the seasoned college officials definitely will, so you’d better not pass that thought along to college officials; show that you’re passionate about columbia and that’ll up your chances.

I’m Male Also Korean too
Anyways, I thought Columbia was supposedly “need-blind” so they won’t judge you by financial aid? Also I’m also seriously thinking John Hopkins due to its 50% ED rate and its spectacular medical school for post-grads.

I’d say Columbia is still a reach even with ED. Ivies are hard to get into for even the completely perfect student. Just nail your essays and you could get in though. As far as the NYC thing goes I don’t think that does anything for admissions especially since Columbia is in Nyc.

You can only apply to one school ED though so be careful between JH and Columbia.

Hey! you have good score stats, but like… i have no idea how to eval your gpa and no idea what your class rank means without an idea of how competitive your school is but you seem really smart and your three great science SATII grades seem to suggest you clearly know where you’re going in life. make sure your essay hints at something medical/science or w/e (or at least that would be nice to continue a theme… perhaps when you give stuff to teachers for recs, mention medicine/science or w/e you’re interested in) i’d still take ACTs contrary to what someone previously says. 35 would totally own your SAT score; if you get a 33-34, you just show you’re consistently good at standardized tests; if you get worse (which i doubt will happen) you don’t have to submit it. worst comes to worse, you just pay 50 dollars to take a test. and since you live in ny, that might not be a problem XD!

uh, sooooo i’m below columbia in my standards but we have columbia-goers every year from my school and this is what i can tell you about them: one was asian (chinese male), 4th-ish of the class, president of debate team, something important on math team (ours is 2nd in the nation), and a million other EC’s as well as a 2380 and all 5’s. guh! i know rite? the other… well he was a wrestler D: (his gpa probs like a 3.0 or something like that)

uh you didn’t really list your accomplishments or w/e, but your ECs (as you noted) are weak. unfortunately, senior year is not the time to build that up, it’s the time to focus the ones you already have and make a real effort toward them. you have a few math tournaments from now till dooms day rite? try studying for one subject a LOT and doing really well? that’s all i can suggest.

i’d say as it is… 40%? idk, unlike WashU, columbia isn’t known for shenanigans in application decisions… but i still dont know what it takes. your low ec’s and being asian bring you down XD (s’okay tho, i’m white… i understand D: hispanics have al the luck)

I would try Hopkins ED. Your rank will really hurt at Columbia, your scores are slightly below median and no EC beyond the school level. Depending on what state you’re from, I’d guess 10-20% chance at Columbia.

being a member of a school club doesn’t really count as EC’s.

From your SAt II’s looks like you’re a science person…try JHU or CMU. JHU’s great for bio or chem whereas CMU is good for physics, compsci, math. Cornell might be a slight reach, but with good recs and essays you could get in.

Despite what everyone says (typical in CC), your stats fall within Columbia’s range of accepted students. (Pssst…people who are applying ED to Columbia are trying to discourage you…so don’t listen to them…hahaha…:p)

I recommend you to write great essays and get stellar teacher and counselor recommendations. Just apply ED if you LOVE Columbia and sit back…let the adcoms do it all :D
