Chance me please/advice on anything else I should be doing? (Emory, Elon, UNC)

Hey everyone, I'm 17yo homeschooled junior white female and my top 3 choices are Elon, Emory and UNC Chapel Hill.

30 ACT (33E, 24M, 34R, 27S, 9W)

GPA 4.0

I've taken pretty rigorous courses in my high school career, including all the unit requirements for the colleges (including my next year curriculum) - four years of math, four of English (including 2 units for junior and senior years), 3 of history, 3 of science (2 labs), 2 years of language. I've taken a Psych 101, Intro to English and Digital Photography class already at a local community college. So far, I have a 4.0 GPA at the college.

My senior year course load will be entirely at a local community college, so basically entirely honors work, and right now I'm planning on taking Trig, Intermediate English, Intro to Creative Writing and Bio 101 first semester, then College Algebra, Sociology or Philosophy, another photography class and Anatomy/Physiology.

Extracurriculars/Service:
Drama (acting, as well as assistant directing and lights/sound management), 9, 10, 11, 12 grade
Guitar (self-taught) 10, 11, 12 grade
I've organized my own newsletter for my home school group, which I edit and print each month, 10, 11, 12 grade
Chicago Sprint Triathlon Participant 11, 12 grade
Street team for To Write Love On Her Arms 11, 12 grade
11 years of Girl Scouts, received my Bronze, Silver and Gold Award
Very active in my church community and youth group

I'll also be attending the Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop this summer. I'm planning on majoring in Journalism and Photography at this point, possibly with a minor in Creative Writing. I'm also considering marketing.

Let me know if there's anything else I should be doing, since I really want to get into these universities, especially with significant FA.

Thank you so much!

I can only chance you for Elon, because that is the only school I know a lot about. While Elon is rising in the university world, it seems they aren’t really concerned with just numbers. If you pay attention to the boards on here about admissions, you will see that a lot of kids with stats similar to yours were waitlisted and/or rejected, while those with solid, but not amazing, stats got in. I have literally the same stats as you when it comes to GPA and ACT, and I was initially deferred from the early action pool. I also am extremely involved in school, a varsity athlete, and hold leadership positions. My guidance counselor remarked my essay was “[sic] amazing,” too, but yet I did not get in at first. However, I contacted my admissions counselor right away and emailed him regularly just to show my interest, and I got in. I think it is really key, to show interest if you want in. Financial aid is kind of stingy at Elon, too. They do give out presidential scholarships and scholarships for being a fellow, but that’s about it for merit based aid. They aren’t being too generous with need based aid either, unfortunately. ):

Thank you so much usernameofmegan!!! Elon is my #1 choice (as in, I might just take a gap year if I don’t get in because I want to go there so badly) so thanks for that info! I’ve already contacted my admissions counselor and am waiting to hear back about some information, so hopefully that will get me a leg up – and thank you so much! Anyone else know info about the other schools?

Excellent chances at Elon! Best of luck!
