Chance Me Please..... AEM Major

My Sat and Act scores are very low. But I feel like all of my ec's and gpa could increase my chances. Even though I have a lot of ec's most of them are in the business field, so I think I am going to explain them all. I also plan on writing the perfect essay, and applying early decision, because I know for a fact that I want to go to Cornell. In fact I have never wanted anything more. Please chance me. I will post my resume, and my scores, as well as my class rank/size, and my gpa. Please chance me, and help me choose whether to send my ACT or SAT scores. I think my act scores are better, because they take the best from each section (I Think), and every test I do better on one section compared to the others.

I think I have a shot with ed, my ec's, my essay, and my teachers love me. Please chance me for the Cornell's AEM major at the CALS School.

your math + writing SAT is 1130. That is far below the average and the average is even dragged down by athletes. AEM also has a 12% admissions rate. Good Ec’s but really try to get those test scores up

You have a lot of… stuff, but Cornell isn’t impressed with quantity. For one, none of your awards sound very serious. You might be in a lot of clubs, but unless you actually do interesting stuff in the clubs it’s not that useful. And since you stopped doing athletics, it won’t be much of a factor. The point is, your ECs won’t look impressive unless you show that you’ve actually done something worthy, not just “join” a random set of clubs and attain a bunch of meaningless (as far as we know) positions. College don’t like people who do stuff just to look good.

And yes, the scores will hurt. A lot.

And your high school has a bank? And it has interns? Weird.

Hi but my clubs take up a lot of my time, and I am actualy i’m the process of bring back the business honor society. Plus all of the clubs I am in are geared toward leadership, and business. I think that will help me, because it shows that I can handle a lot of work and that I am dedicated to what I want to do. I forgot to mention that o was enrolled in the IB diploma in 11th grade, and that was why I did not continue playing sports. I wanted to focus on my eduction. I am also retaking the act in septemer. However with all of my highest sections combined the score turns into a 27. I hope that I will/can get in.

those test scores are really going to hurt you. completely honest.

You’re not realizing the clubs themselves don’t matter. The only thing that matters is what you DO. Just being in the club shows nothing. If you can show you’ve done something that requires hard work and talent in those clubs, that’s a whole another story.

The thing is, you’re competing with people with great test scores, great GPAs, and impressive leadership positions.

I can definitely explain what I did in each club. I have done a lot. That is one thing that I am not worried about. I also forgot to explain that I am doing an internship at the university of Maryland over the summer, and that I am actually taking pre calc over the summer. That allows me to take college calc in my senior year. It will definitely look like I am doing all that I can do to get in. I am just not a strong standardized test taker. I have worked so hard, ever since freshman year to get into Cornel. Its just these tests. Does Cornell focus on heavily on the SAT and ACT scores. I cant explain to you how bad I want to get in. I know that I am competing against the best, but I still believe I fit every part of the school. It is the perfect school for me. Do you have any other tips that I could do to get in? I am willing to do anything. I also wanted to thank all of you for just leaving a response, I love all of the helpful criticism. That allows me to try to improve in those parts. So I really did want to thank all of you.

I apologize for forgetting so much, but I got a 710 on the chem. SAT II, and a 680 on the math I Sat II. Please leave more constructive criticism. Thank You.

I give you a 3% chance of admission. 10% if you had SATs over 1400/1600 and get great recs. Too many EC’s; you will need to narrow it down to your most serious ones when you apply to any school. What about AP’s, IB,s or college courses taken while in high school?

I could always send them less ecs, thats not a big deal. I am enrolled in the IB diploma, and I take:

HL: Physics, Business, English, and History
SL: Spanish, Math Methods.
College: College Calc

I have taken every honors course in high school, besides math, because my school would not let me move up. The reason I was allowed to move up was because my school allowed to take pre calc over the summer to take college calc in my senior year But, I got 100 every quarter in math before that.

Imagine the process of receiving 30,000+ applciaiton, what will be the first step? I would guess they will filter out at least 50% just purely base on stat. Your score will hurt you for sure. Your chance based on the current stat will be if you are URM, special talent, or won national recognized awards. A lot of ECs may actually hurt you in a way because it just shows that you cannot handle both ECs and academic. I understand that test does not realy show the truth but unfortunately that is the way right now because everyone takes it (to compare). If you look those who got admitted into AEM, you can see their stat and draw your own conclusion. Don’t get discourage though, try to get better score or just apply, you never know.

Hi, I completely understand that. I am definitely going to retake the ACT again. I am going to try to get at least a 30. This is not discouraging, in fact it’s the complete opposite. It’s encouraging me to do better. Even if I don’t get better scores, I am still going to apply. I just hope I am one of the exceptions, even if it is unlikely.

zab, I really like your outlook on things. Stay positive and hope for the best!

i second bartledoo

If you are unsuccessful gaining admission through the freshmen process, you should consider transferring into AEM after completing a year or two at a state school. Complete the CALS distribution requirement and you should be a competitive applicant.

Thank you Bartledoo, and starrynightsx, I truly appreciate it. Fik89, Thank you for the wonderful idea. I want to go to CALS so bad lol, and if i dont get in, I will def try to transfer after a year or two at a state school. Thank you for the great advice.

Hi, sry for the delayed response, thank you bartledoo, and starrynighsx, I really appreciate it. Fik89, thank you for the helpful idea. I definitely want to go to cornell, and even if I do not get into Cornell the first year, I will definitely try to transfer the next year. Thank you all for the helpful criticism, and comments, and please keep it coming.

I’ll give you a 10% chance. Your grades put you around the 10th percentile at Cornell. All of your SATs are below the 25th percentile. But your ECs are probably above average so it might not be impossible for you to get in.

But what’s really holding you down are your SATs. Have you studied for the test? Can you try to take it in the fall?

In your opinion, do you think that I would get in, because I know its a long shot, but its definitely possible. I am currently studying every second of the day, and I have in the past, I am just not a strong test taker. I am going to take the act again in september, hopefully I will do well. I do better on the ACT, then the SATS, currently when taking the highest from each section, I have a 27, and the 25-75 percentile is 28-32, so I am not that far off, hopefully I can bring it up though. Do you think I should send all 3 tests, with some sections really high, and others really low. I called them and they said that I should because they take the highest from every section. I think that I have a chance if I do that.

Do you honestly think that I will get in, if I give it all the effort that i can give?
