Hello everyone! I am new to CC and I would really like everyone's advice.
I'm really worried that I can't make it to any UC's at all b/c of my junior year. Thanks.

I am really really scared for my junior year. I feel like I'm trying my hardest but it isn't working out especially for AP Calc. The teacher is nice and all, but he really can't teach! Right now I feel like I am going to end AP Calc with a D! Is this going to ruin my chances to make it into any of the UC's? What can I do to improve my chances? Can I take any classes to make up for the C and possible D? I am so scared...
What would happen if I get at least a 3 on the AP exam for Calc?

Any advice? Please and thank you

Bump…Anyone?
I’m so worried at the moment so please help ease my worries a bit.
Thanks

With your GPA and SAT I would say that the UCs you listed are reaches. What is your predicted final GPA, and UC GPA? I’m not that knowledgeable about the CSUs, but I think SDSU is a match. Your ECs are nice, but you might want to find more safeties (I don’t know about Fullerton).

What about Santa Cruz and Riverside? Do you live in the SDSU referral area? Will you have satisfied the math requirement without Cale??

@Stevenf: Thanks for replying…Honestly I’m not too sure about my final GPA cuz of my calc class. The rest will prob be one B and the rest A’s excluding my calc class. It will prob be a 3.5-3.7 depending how well I do this semester. My UC GPA is 3.83 as of now.

@Shrinkrap: Thanks for your suggestions. I’ll definitely look into those colleges however, UCSB is my dream school so I would really like to make it in. I also will have finished my math requirements even without calc. I took it because I considered myself to be pretty good at math but I guess not.
I live in the LA area actually.

Would taking the SAT II’s help improve my chances of getting in?
I’ll probably take Chinese and US Hist.

Unfortunately it isn’t that well-regarded if you take Mandarin since you’re Chinese; same with the AP. I would focus on a different SAT II, but no it won’t help your chances (starting next year, the CSU/UCs don’t look at SAT IIs). Your course load is useful, so it may be possible to get into UCSB. Might. UC Riverside and UC Santa Cruz are definitely matches though.

"“it won’t help your chances (starting next year, the CSU/UCs don’t look at SAT IIs”.

I don’t think that’s quite true. I’ve read SAT II’s will be “considered”, but not required. I think it will help.

"For which majors and at which campuses will the SAT Subject Tests be required?

Beginning with students applying for the fall 2012 term, SAT Subject Tests no longer will be required and students who do not submit subject test scores will not be penalized during the review process.

Some majors at some campuses, however, recommend particular tests, and applicants may submit subject test scores for consideration during the comprehensive review process much the way they do now with Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate scores. Additionally, subject exams still may be used to satisfy “a-g” subject requirements."

@Stevenf Is that so? Because I thought it would at least help a bit if i get at least over 700. I really want to attend UCSB though.

@Shrinkrap Yeah I thought about not taking the SAT II for Chinese or not, but the next best subject for me would be math and since Calc this year, I’m not that confident in my math skills anymore. If I should take Math which level should I take? I heard Math level 1 is a joke? Btw im planning to apply as undeclared or Econ with Accounting.

Thanks so much for your replies and being honest. I really appreciate your help!

Used to have to be level II if you pick math. My son hadn’t even finished pre-calc, and took Math II. But he did not get into any of the schools on your list.
