I am a college freshman at a CC in my hometown in Texas. I want to go to Florida State next fall! I just want to know how my chances look... Here are my stats.

-Will have 18 hours at time of application (December); will have 30 hours at time of transfer (after this Spring semester)
-3.8 college GPA
-Phi Theta Kappa
-High School GPA was a 2.98
-High School ACT was a 26

I know my high school work will kill me. I struggled the first two years but learned how to cope with some learning disabilities and did better my junior year and all A's my senior year. I am hoping they will see the incline and that I am doing better, but unfortunately they do not take essays or anything from transfer students so I cannot explain my situation. I also won't be able to share my EC's and personal achievements (100's of community service hours, Eagle Scout, Boys State). I know I am not a sure thing to get in, so I have decided that I will settle at Tallahassee Community College and enroll in the TCC2FSU program if I do not gain acceptance to FSU at first. I want to major in Sports Management or Athletic Training, but I can change to something else if it makes it easier to gain acceptance. Just need something in the sports field (I want to coach basketball). Thanks for the help!

Interesting case. Normally your high school record would be a non-starter because you would be a lower-division transfer. You would then have to meet all of the criteria of a freshman applicant as well as a transfer applicant.

At 30 credits, this would be a big deal. At 31 credits, you wouldn’t necessarily have to send all that in. You may benefit significantly from taking an extra class in the spring to bump to 31 credits so you wouldn’t be hindered by your high school problems.

Yeah, my bad. I really messed that up. I have no idea why I suddenly thought 31 was the magical number instead of 60.

I still think that in your case, if your college stats are that strong, you would have a good case to have FSU overlook some of your high school problems. If not, you can always get your AA degree- keep your stats up like that and you’re basically going to be guaranteed in with your AA.
