Hooks: I'm Hispanic
MIT soccer coach says he will support me as their #1 prospect ( but I'm not sure how much weight coaches have at MIT)
I will also hopefully have support at Amherst and Williams, not sure how helpful that will be as they're D3
SAT (

Oh, and I will hopefully have some sort of internship this summer having to do with STEM

You’re golden, just take a science SAT II because they require it

If you’re being recruited, you have a great shot! You additionally have all the academics and are URM. You shouldn’t have any problem getting in where you want to go. Good luck!

Thank you both for your responses! I think I’ll take the Chem subject test at the end of this year… So a coach’s support at MIT could be a difference-maker then? I’m just not sure how big of an advantage his support actually is, but your responses make me slightly more optimistic!

Buuuummmpp

You definitely have a pretty good shot at all 3 schools. Coaches don’t have as much weight at MIT at big sports schools like schools in the SEC but being a number one prospect will really help you out. Your math SAT is kind of low for MIT but your subject test makes up for it. Being a URM will also certainly help.
Good luck! Could you chance me as well?

You are pretty much set to be honest. Are there any other schools you want to get into becaus you even have a decent shot at the higher level Ivy League if you want. I noticed that you did not mention a lot of volunteer work, maybe try it, you might really enjoy it. Plus, it obviously has merits for your applications.

Please chance me back. I am sorry I am not attaching a link, but I am having issues posting to the forum on my iPad.

I think you have a great shot at getting accepted but be careful about the recruiter. A senior in my AP BIO class was recruiter for the track team by the coach, however, he was not accepted by the university.

I think you don’t even need the coach’s support to be accepted. Just write decent essays and you’re in.

Thank you all for your responses!@MsMallory- I’m looking at Harvard and U Penn, but I don’t think I’m going to get the support of their coaches in admissions…they only have 6 slots or so, and even though they’ve shown some interest, I’m not in their top group of recruits unfortunately…so, I feel like my chances to those schools are not great, because my EC’s are far from outstanding…

Bummmmppppp

Buuuummmmmpppp

The coach’s support add to your already strong chances.

Considering that you are Hispanic and have such a strong sports background, HYP are high matches.
MIT, Amherst, and Williams are matches.

ECs far from outstanding? Your soccer is an EC, and you’re good enough to be recruited.

I guess I’m just worried about my lack of significant leadership positions or major awards or anything else to really set me apart! I mean, there must be A LOT of athletes who apply!
