Chance me please, Blair, Peddie, Lawrenceville, Middlesex, and St. Pauls

I am currently in 7th grade and am looking to apply to boarding school next year. I plan on applying to Blair, Peddie, Lawrenceville, Middlesex, St. Pauls, and maybe Kent. First of all, anyone who is going/has gone to these schools, can you tell me what you think? And second of all, can you chance me to the best of your abilities? I know that you guys aren't the admissions staff at these schools, but I honestly want to know if I stand a chance. By the way, I'm a girl.

Grades:
English average: 97%
Math average: 95%
Social Studies average: 99%
Science average: 102%
Latin average: 98%

Extra-curriculars:
I am a leading soloist in my school chorus, and I often choreograph our numbers. I also play the guitar (I have been playing for 2 years). My main extra-curricular activity is dance. I am on a competition team, so I compete with my studio against some of the best dance studios in the country. I take 7 dance classes per week: 2 ballet, 2 jazz, 1 pointe, 1 modern, and 1 hip hop, as well as multiple extra rehearsals for competition. I have been dancing since I was 3 years old, and have attended the Rock School summer dance intensive.

Sports:
Dancing is my sport, and because of the amount of time I spend dancing, I can't participate in interscholastic sports at school. However, I do thirds year-round: In the fall, I do tennis, in the winter, I do dance (I am captain of the team), and in the spring, I do softball. I love softball and am quite good at it, so I hope next year to clear my dance schedule a little bit in order to do the interscholastic team.

Awards:
I have won multiple writing awards, starting in 1st grade. 1st-4th grade, I entered and won first place every year in my library's fiction writing contest. Last year, I one first place overall in the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire writing competition. Even though I was in the youngest age group, I managed to win the highest award there. This year, I entered the Philadelphia Classics Society competition with a Grecian-inspired dress and a short story based off the myth of Echo and Narcisuss. I won awards for both items, however I don't know what I won yet: The awards banquet is in a couple weeks, so I will know then.

Report cards:
I usually get one or two Bs every trimester, but the rest are all As.

SSAT:
I have not taken my SSATs yet, but I plan on studying very hard for them in order to do well.

Community service:
Every week I go to a small school in Philadelphia for children with special needs. I usually spend about 45 minutes per week there, and have been doing it starting at the beginning of 6th grade, which equals around 48 hours up until now. My little sister has epilepsy, so I have a particular passion for working with special needs people of all ages.

Ethnicity:
My dad is Ecuadorian and my mom is British. I am both a US citizen and a British citizen, and my family is going to start trying to get an Ecuadorian citizenship for me. I live in the USA, and I am almost fluent in Spanish (meaning I understand all of it, but I sometimes have a hard time coming up with responses).

So, based on what I said above, what are my chances of getting into the schools I mentioned? Are there any other schools you would suggest based on my interests? What can I do to improve my chances? Thanks so much!

Well, I will not “chance” you. I will tell you that you have good grades, have a particular passion which you devote most of your time to, and you have a compelling story (your little sister) about community service, which is always nice to hear. I would say to bring up your writing a lot, as I do love to write as well, yet never entered anything in which an award would be given. Continue to show your excitement in dance, community service, and writing, and that will contribute to your overall strong application. I cannot ensure anything. I was admitted to the Peddie school (did not bother to apply to the other schools you mentioned), and that may have been based on my good grades and scores, passion for community service and writing, and distinct personality. Many good candidates apply for spots at the schools you mentioned, so no matter how great of a candidate you are, nothing can be certain.

can i just ask how you got 102 % in your science?

Alixindigo -

Most of the tests and quizzes that we took had extra credit questions, which brought my average above 100%.

You seem to be a good student and a devoted ballerina and being able to speak 1 and 3/4 of a language also helps. The only thing is that (I don’t want to sound mean or anything.) these schools look for diversity, if you live in the United States and you are from the states even though your partially British your really American; this doesn’t stand out to these schools. Theres a difference between someone that lives in the US than someone that comes from Asia or Africa or South or Central America. These schools thrive on this diversity, there are many many students in the States that get good grades and are focused on a particular sport such as yourself, but these are common, I don’t mean to blow your confidence, but I just wanted to share this info. Don’t be discouraged at all though, if your a charming person when being interviewed and you write an amazing essay you’ll do fine.

Okay, thanks for the input. I’ll be sure to work really hard on my essay!

heeyyyy am from sps and precong cuz if u love dance sps loves u !!!

Fyi write about being a ballerina and how the community shaped who u r in your essay!!(sps) this would reaallyyy help u to stand ouy!!! Believe me, u and sps are perfect match !!!

WodeRIGirL - Thanks so much! I was already considering writing my essay about dance. Your post gives me hope, because SPS is my first choice! Do you like it there?

I just want to say that plenty of dancers don’t get into SPS. I didn’t think SPS was regarded as a “dance” school. And WondeRIGirL, I don’t think that SPS and ballerina22 are perfect fits until they are officially “matched” together in a harmonious acceptance letter. Chance me threads give too much false hope
