Chance me please? BU, UW, UCs,

I am pure 100% Chinese female who is a Senior in high school. Though I am a citizen of the US, I was not born here. I reside in California, so yes I am in-state for UCs.
I plan to major in political science.

The REAL issue begins here. My GPA is lower than the average acceptance GPA by a lot.

GPA weighted: 3.6
GPA unweighted: 3.5

SAT math: 625
SAT writing: 625
SAT reading: 610
Total SAT: 1850 (I only plan on taking it once)

No ACT at the moment, but I plan to take it in the near future.

Honors: Geo (H) and Eng. (H)
AP Classes: US History (4), Econ (n/a), Psych (n/a), Gov (n/a)
My school does not lack AP classes, but the influx of students signing up pushed many students out (which is why I could only obtain one AP class in 3 years).

Extra Curricular(s):
Swim Team: JV 3 years, Varsity this year, broke the league record 2013 - 2014, MVP 2013 - 2014
Water Polo Team: JV 1 year (was captain), Varsity 2 years (captain for all 2 years), Girls' All League Water Polo Honorable Mention Award
Debate Team: 1 year novice, 1 year JV, 1 year Varsity, Captain (2014 - 2015)
Speech and Debate Club: 3 years, Executive Board Member two years, Tournament Coordinator one year
Math Club: 3 years
CSF: 1 year
National Coalition for the Homeless: 2 year
Summer School Volunteering
Library Volunteering
American Legion Volunteering
(Total community service hours: 130+)

The universities I am currently applying to are:

Boston University
University of Washington (Seattle)
UC Davis
UC Irvine
UC San Diego
UC Riverside

I can honestly say that I have strong essays. Even with the essays though, are my chances good?

Calculate your UC GPA: <a href=“GPA Calculator for the University of California – RogerHub”>http://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Based on your posted Stats:
UCR: Match
UCD/UCI: Low Reach/High Match
UCSD: Reach
Others??
Your GPA is low for most of the UC’s, You might want to consider UCSC as a possible Match and your local Cal State as a safety. UC’s are very GPA focused, so if you had a 4.0+ GPA with that 1850 SAT, UCI/UCD would be matches. Only thing you can do is try to get a competitive ACT of 29+ and hope for the best. You should have some backup schools on your list.

Thanks for the tips!! Would you happen to know how I am doing for BU and UW as well?

Actually never mind my comment above. I didn’t notice you said “others??” Sorry. Can someone else please help chance me with BU and UW though?

The public schools give a lot of weight to the numbers, so I’m not sure. :frowning: Hopefully your essays can win them! Here are my predictions:

Boston University - Accepted/Waitlisted
University of Washington (Seattle) - Accepted/Waitlisted
UC Davis - Accepted/Waitlisted
UC Irvine - Accepted
UC San Diego - Waitlisted/Rejected
UC Riverside - Accepted

Please chance me back!!
