•Weaknesses: GPA

It looks like you’ll be a competitive candidate. Aside from that given the low acceptance rate at NU and peer institutions, it’s really impossible to say more.

Short answer – you should definitely apply.

Thanks zephyr15 that’s all I was looking for. NU is probably my number 1 right now.

bump
also do I have a shot at the MMSS program? I really want to get in there but not sure if its worth applying…

bump 10char

I think you should have no problem in getting in. Considering your high school is so well ranked and your ECs are strong and varied, your stats would be hard to deny.

Awesome! I really hope you’re right. If you are… Christmas = Made :)

I personally think you should apply the engineering school; it seems to fit you more, but that’s your choice in the end.

I agree completely, my school is considered a pre-engineering school in some ways, but i don’t really want to do engineering in college… how easy is it to transfer?
and the other thing is i was planning on applying to the MMSS program (which is a long shot for me, but whatever) and if i apply to the engineering school idt i would be able to apply right?

I’m not sure about that one…but I do know that MMSS is part of Weinberg so it’s probably just CAS only.

Yeah that’s what I thought too…

I honestly don’t think you should be worried. Every component of your application is on par with what Northwestern is looking for. From reading your earlier posts, I know you don’t want to study engineering but it seems you have a good shot at getting into McCormick. Or even something like biology.

So should I switch to McCormick? because I can easily change my essay to fit McCormick and in all honesty I’d be ok with doing something like applied Mathematics there worst case scenario, but otherwise do you know how difficult would it be to transfer to Weinberg?

After reviewing your stats I think you would have a much higher chance at getting into McCormick than Weinberg at this point. They would give preference to a student with some engineering background.
After you gain admittance into the university I would imagine you could transfer to Weinberg with relative ease. For more info I would suggest posting your query on the Northwestern forum. There are many students there that are already attending the university.
Also are you a premed student?

I heard its pretty easy to switch into Mccormick to Weinberg, vice versa.
However, I heard from others its better to start out in Mccormick because if you decide to switch from Weinberg to Mccormick later you’d be missing out on the freshman level intro engineering courses.

nah I’m not a premed student… I’m looking into econ/stat which is why I wanted to apply to the MMSS program cause that seemed like a perfect fit for what I want to do which I wouldn’t be able to apply to if i apply to McCormick. I doubt i’d get into the MMSS program anyway though soo, now I’m like 50/50 as to which school I’m going to apply to haha

I would recommend you start off at McCormick and apply to MMSS as a sophomore. According to the website, for sophomore admissions, they give preference to applicants that completed and performed well in a freshman honors math sequence. If you do really well in first-year math at McCormick, you would be a really appealing candidate.
And getting into McCormick is better than not getting into Northwestern at all. You could just transfer as a sophomore.
Here’s a link to the page I was looking at if you haven’t already seen it:
[Sophomore Admission, Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences – [page headline], Mathematical Methods in the Social Sciences – Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences, Northwestern University](http://www.mmss.northwestern.edu/admission/sophomore.html)

In the end it’s up to you…you could just apply to Weinberg right now and hope for the best. Is this your top school?

I don’t really have a top school anymore after being rejected by Duke… I have no idea what went wrong with my application there to not even get deferred and neither does anyone who knows me, but whatever that’s over now. But yeah Northwestern’s deff one of my top choices by far.

Actually it probably is my first choice if it came down to deciding in the end
